Introduction
The Raindrop by Granola Arcade is a mini all-button controller with six auxiliary buttons that are woven nicely into the 3D-printed plastic enclosure. There are many enclosure colors to choose from.
Performance
The buttons are responsive and feel good to press. The switches are Kailh Chocs that are supposed to last 50 million presses. Hot-swappable sockets mean that you should be able to swap Kailh Choc V1 and V2 switches with ease. This depends on your taste, if a switch is loose, or if a switch breaks. In any case, if you run into any issues with your Raindrop, Granola Arcade should be able to help out quickly.
Hardware
The Raindrop is smaller than most mini arcade controllers, and expectedly, it is quite light. It runs on the open source GP2040-CE firmware with low latency less than a millisecond. The Steam Deck and MiSTer are supported as well. Brook converters are compatible too.
To perform maintenance on the Raindrop, all you need to do is pull out the switches and slide the PCB out the side. The SOCD modes are configurable, and the default mode is up plus down equals neutral. The port is USB-C.
Appearance
All that the Raindrop strives to be is a simple mini controller with custom enclosure and button colors. Given that mission, it has succeeded. Furthermore, “Raindrop” text and some raindrop shapes are engraved into the bottom. Again, the auxiliary buttons are woven nicely into the design.
Conclusion
The Raindrop is worth checking out if you are in the market for a controller that is tinier but still serviceable.
