Introduction

The Makestick Pro Crystal Edition Type D is a custom arcade case that has resurfaced, this time with flair in the form of a unique silhouette.

Performance

Because it is heavily customizable upon ordering, the Crystal can be as good as you want it to be. You can go for a Brook UFB Fusion PCB for low latency and diverse compatibility. You can also choose your preferred type of:

  • Joystick
  • Buttons
  • USB cable
  • Case color
  • Button color
  • L3 & R3 buttons (optional)
  • Custom artwork (optional)

The joystick can be Korean or Japanese. It is worth noting that the buttons have a unique slant to them. You can opt for a stack like a Sanwa joystick with Seimitsu buttons. The Knee lever’s shape fits nicely into one’s hand. GamerFinger buttons are near silent.

Three secondary buttons can be found on one side, and another secondary button can be found on the other side. There is also a toggle switch there. The secondary buttons are often Sanwa 24 mm.

On the upper right of the top panel, two Crown buttons may be found for L3 and R3 (if you opt for those optional additions). Their placement is good for training mode functions but not for Drive Impacts or Drive Parries in Street Fighter 6, for example. Furthermore, they are harder to press.

There is decent wrist resting space. Just be careful of the sharp corners of the case. There are rubber feet at the bottom for stability, making the arcade stick optimal for table play. That is because it may not feel as stable on your legs without something like an anti-slip pad.

Hardware

The Crystal is made of acrylic. The thickness (or height) of the case can be selected. The Crystal has a toolless case, meaning you can take it apart to access the internals without using a tool like a screwdriver. That is because the panel stays secure by way of magnets, but to be honest, it is not fully secure.

That does not mean the case will fall apart during play. It just means you may feel it shaking a little bit if you are a lap player. On the bright side, the interior is fairly organized, with cable ties, color-coded wires, and more.

Appearance

The uniquely shaped case can be transparent, colored, or feature custom artwork. Regarding the artwork, we at The Arcade Stick have a custom art service, so we can provide you digital art.

Otherwise, you can choose the button colors you like, even if that means different button colors throughout the arcade stick. The joystick comes in different colors too.

If you go for a transparent build, the colored wires will likely be pleasing to the eyes of players from electrical engineers to the generally tech savvy.

Conclusion

The MakeStick Crystal can be a see-through arcade stick, and it is conveniently wide.
