Introduction

The Haute42 M16 is a mini all-button controller made of aluminum alloy that also comes in another edition with only 13 buttons. In addition to the case’s color, you can choose from black, silver, or transparent keycaps. In fact, check out the editions’ names:

  • M13-B-Black
  • M13-B-Transparent
  • M16-B-Black
  • M16-B-Transparent
  • M16-G-Silver
  • M16-G-Transparent

The M16 can also be a WASD controller, and there are more buttons for other functions you may need, such as L3 and R3. There are seven secondary buttons on the upper right, which include turbo, LS, RS, home, back, and start. On the upper left, there is an OLED display screen.

The M16 uses low profile Kailh Choc V2 Red linear switches, it runs on the RP2040, and the input latency is less than a millisecond, thanks to an overclocked polling rate. The M16 also features turbo functionality and SOCD cleaning.

Performance

The buttons are integrated with the PCB and feel similar to other Haute42 controllers, so they are good. In game, the M16 is nice and responsive.

An interesting note is that there is a thin foam pad inside that seems to dampen the buttons’ sound. Otherwise, the layout is quite comfortable, but of course, this is a smaller controller. However, there is still considerable wrist space.

The secondary buttons are the tiny type, so exercise precision when you press them. Although there are no labels, you can remap them through the open source GP2040-CE web configuration.

Your M16 should not slide around during play, and if you set it on your lap, it is wide enough for reasonable comfort without squeezing your legs much.

Hardware

The metallic build of the controller gives it decent weight and heft without making it too heavy to carry around if needed. Carriage is even easier due to the slimness of the build.

When it comes to hardware customization, there is not much to do other than change the keycaps and switches if that appeals to you. PlayStation 5 compatibility can be achieved by inserting an appropriate dongle into the allotted slot.

Note that your M16 may also come with silicone anti-slip feet, an extra switch, a switch puller, a USB-C cable, and 6 mm button caps.

Appearance

The M16 has a sleek and elegant look. It does not smudge easily. For custom art, you would need something like engravement or vinyl because there is no clear layer for traditional fightstick art application.

If you can pull off the vinyl route, meaning you have an offline or online source to print the art for you in sticker format, you can shoot us a message here at The Arcade Stick as we have a custom art service.

Note that the button holes would need to get cut out too. Speaking of the buttons, you can also enjoy RGB LED with them, and the case & keycap color options are the icing on the cake.

Conclusion

The M16 is a sturdy little controller made of metal that has a convenient dual layout and aesthetic LED.
