Introduction

The modular Furin FRS features a smaller and slimmer 28 mm white acrylic case with exchangeable parts. Buttons can be 24 or 33 mm. The secondary buttons are start, select, home, touchpad, L3, and R3.

The keycaps can be black or white, and Cherry MX switches are available in the following colors:

  • Black
  • Blue
  • Brown
  • Red
  • Silver
  • Assorted

You can completely customize and preview the FRS using Furin Arcade’s online simulator. There are hitbox and mixbox layouts, with a total of six left layouts and eight right layouts.

Performance

The buttons feel good, thanks to the Cherry MX switches. Furin Arcade took no prisoners when it comes to the buttons aspect. While the small size of the secondary buttons makes it harder to press them, this also means that there is less of a chance that you press them accidentally and potentially disqualify yourself from a tournament.

There is foam at the bottom to prevent slipping. The stability is also enhanced by the sheer weight of the FRS. The FRS is not full-sized, but it is not a mini controller either. If anything, it is closer to being full-sized than mini. That makes it portable without sacrificing gameplay quality.

Hardware

Addon kits are available for all button layout combinations to easily swap Cherry switch types. In fact, you can change entire button layouts within minutes without any soldering or complex wiring. We just wish the wiring was color coded.

The USB cable is detachable. It comes out of the back right corner. While we do not necessarily mind exposed ports, some may find it an issue due to accumulating dust and so on. Thankfully, the FRS’s USB port was tightened with the V2 edition. As for the optional PCBs, they are from Brook.

Now, to make use of the FRS’ modular capabilities, you have to disassemble the top layers and get to the actual panel that holds the directional inputs. Luckily, there is only one wire you need to detach and then attach to the new panel. The right panel may be a bit trickier to handle, but nothing major. In general, applying the panels is easy.

Appearance

If you do not opt for Furin Arcade’s Astro, Ghost Astro, and Shadow Astro preset artworks or even the black option, you can upload custom art when ordering the FRS. You can also order the FRS as is and then remove the plexiglass to apply artwork yourself. If you are looking for a specialized artist, you can order some bespoke art through us.

Our artists, Marques West and Felipe Fernandez, have experience making art for the Furin FRS. Check out these artworks they made for their clients:
