Introduction
The SLM-B5 is a mini all-button controller with three secondary buttons on each upper side of the top panel:
- Home/PS
- Select/share
- Turbo
- Start/option
- L3
- R3
Performance
The size of the SLM-B5 is reminiscent of an iPad or even an iPad mini. The buttons feel good and have a decent size, but their unique size might make finding replacements difficult.
On the bright side, because the switches are hot swappable, you can go for any compatible switches that help you perform the best. The stock Gateron Red switches are low profile.
In a world of arcade controllers that have tiny secondary buttons, the SLM-B5 shines with larger secondary buttons that are still not as easy to press by accident, which is good. No issues were faced when testing the SLM-B5 on contemporary fighting games.
Hardware
The SLM-B5 is a well built controller with buttons that are detachable. The firmware is GP2040-CE, the PCB is the Raspberry Pi Pico, and the USB port comes out of the back. The SOCD cleaning modes are switchable.
Here are the button specs for the detail oriented:
- 22 mm buttons (11)
- 27 mm jump button
- 17 mm secondary buttons (6)
Appearance
A light that is blue, purple, green, or red can glow from the bottom of the SLM-B5. The back panel is matte black acrylic, and this controller can accept custom artwork. This is an example of what it could look like:
We at The Arcade Stick have our own custom artwork service.
