Introduction
The Haute42 M16 Plus is a leverless controller that is a bigger version of its predecessor. The M16 Plus edition has 16 buttons, and the M12 Plus edition has 12 buttons.
Performance
Through an overclocked polling rate, the M16 Plus’ buttons have less than a millisecond of input delay, which is good. Also, the Crystal linear switches have fast actuation and are relatively quiet. If you prefer other switches, you can hot swap the Crystals with other switches that are Kailh Choc V2 compatible.
That said, because of the approximately 25 mm size of the buttons, the M16 Plus is best for those with bigger hands, but if you have smaller hands, you should be able to adapt as well. As for the function buttons, their size is 6 mm. It is worth noting that the controller has plenty of space for your wrists to rest.
Moving on, you may find the extra buttons of the M16 Plus to be useful, especially because the upper left button can be used as the jump button of the WASD layout, meaning this is a dual layout controller. The two extra buttons on the opposite side are for the left and right sticks.
As for the function buttons, they are for:
- LS
- RS
- Back
- Home
- Start
- Touchpad
- Turbo
To fit your needs, the M16 Plus has multiple SOCD cleaning modes. For your convenience, there is built-in web configuration too.
Hardware
The M16 Plus is a metallic controller that is heavy enough to keep it stable when you play without being too heavy for you to carry. The controller may fit into your laptop or tablet sleeve. If not, you can get a new sleeve.
If your room is cold, the M16 Plus might get cold too, which you may feel on your skin, so take note of that. On the bright side, because this is a metallic controller, you should not experience any flexing when pressing gently on it.
When it comes to the firmware, the M16 Plus runs on the open source GP2040-CE. Furthermore, there is an OLED screen to inform you about the current input mode, directional mode, and SOCD mode. You can even see which buttons you are pressing live on that same display.
The USB-C port of the M16 Plus comes out of the center back, so the cable should not get in your way during play. The EXT port is to that port’s left, and this extra port allows you to insert an adapter for PlayStation 5 compatibility. For example, you can use the BOOTER 5 by Haute42.
When you order your M16 Plus, it should also come with:
- Haute42 transparent low-profile switch
- Switch puller
- Three function buttons
- USB-C to A cable
- User guide
Appearance
The M16 Plus has a minimalistic black design, well, unless you go for the silver edition. Back to the black edition, it does not attract fingerprint smudges as much as acrylic, but it can get oily over time, so have a wiping cloth handy. The slimness of the controller adds to its beauty, and so does the custom RGB LED that lights up the buttons.
Now, if you would like to add art to your M16 Plus (which would likely have to be in the form of vinyl), check out the previous work of our Felipe Fernandez for the same controller, and he can design custom art for your controller as well:
