Introduction
The Haute42 P12 is here! It is a mini stickless controller that is slim. With an OLED screen, you are better informed about your inputs in-game. Furthermore, there are function buttons for:
- Start
- Home
- Back
- Left stick
- Right stick
- Tournament lock
- Touchpad
- Turbo
Turbo is for pressing a button once and resulting in many inputs with low effort. As for the tournament lock, it is to disable the P12’s function buttons, avoiding disqualification due to pressing them accidentally at a tournament.
Performance
The P12’s buttons feel smooth to touch. They are not silent, but not loud either. The buttons use Crystal linear switches that are quite fast.
If you are tech savvy, you may be glad to know that the overclocked polling rate of the P12 allows it to achieve less than a millisecond of input lag, which is awesome.
On a desk, the P12 feels good, thanks to its anti-slipping bottom. If you would like to place the controller on your lap, though, you will likely have to squeeze your legs together due to the compact form factor.
As for wrist resting space, the P12 does not have much of that, which is not a problem because your palms will likely be raised in the air whenever you use a stickless controller like this one. If anything, your desk can serve as a wrist rest.
Now, the layout that the P12 uses is the standard one: the jump button is bigger than the rest of the primary buttons. That is to require less precision from whichever thumb you like to use when jumping in-game.
Hardware
The P12 is one of Haute42’s lightest controllers, and it is small enough to potentially fit into a tablet sleeve you may already own.
Regarding firmware, the P12 runs on the highly acclaimed and open source GP2040-CE, so you have multiple SOCD cleaning modes at your disposal.
The USB-C port is on the P12’s left, and there is a slot on the right where you can insert a PlayStation 5 dongle like the BOOTER 5. What you should also be receiving with your order:
- USB-C cable
- Switch puller
- Haute42 transparent low-profile switch
Speaking of switches, you will likely have to go for other switches that are Kailh Choc V2 compatible if you would like to hot swap the P12’s switches.
Appearance
The P12 is perhaps the most unique looking Haute42 controller compared to its predecessors. Its shade of black is elegant, and its curved edges are a sight to behold.
Another nice aspect about the P12’s aesthetics is that it does not show fingerprint smudges easily. If it does get oily over time, however, just wipe it down occasionally.
That said, the star of the show may very well be the RGB LED that adds an additional element of beauty to the P12’s buttons. Moreover, the controller conveniently includes built-in embedded web configuration.
For custom art, your best bet may be to apply vinyl onto your P12, and we at The Arcade Stick actually have an art service to help you with the customization process.
