Overview
The DUB PL8 (meaning “dubplate”) is another spinoff from the 4TW by jonyfraze. This controller provides you slimness & portability while allowing you to install your own buttons and PCB.
That said, the DUB PL8 is a DIY controller, so you would have to do the wiring yourself. Speaking of which, expert modding skills are needed for the wiring and putting together the controller in general. That is because of the inch-high interior of the enclosure. On the bright side, the controller comes with all the assembly hardware you need.
Moving on, the DUB PL8 accepts 24 mm & 30 mm snap-in buttons, and their size depends on the layout you choose. The layouts include:
- All button
- All button +3
- 6gawd all button
- 6gawd all button split
- Shiokenstar
- Custom
The button model can be the Sanwa OBSF, Qanba Gravity KS, Punk Workshop, and so on. As for the DUB PL8’s six function buttons, their size is 12 mm.
Now, to prevent your DUB PL8 from sliding around during play, you can request 0.16″ EVA foam bottom cushions that are black.
Hardware-wise, the DUB PL8 is made of 6 mm cast acrylic that is also black. The top cover can be 3 mm matte black acrylic or, for custom art, clear acrylic. You can request a clear acrylic cover for the bottom too. The acrylic comes with protective paper that you would have to peel off.
You may be glad to know that the DUB PL8 includes mounting holes for Book PCBs and similar boards. For example, you can go for a PCB that runs on the open source GP2040-CE firmware. The panel mount is USB-B, and so is the cable.
When it comes to its looks, the DUB PL8 has a simple but aesthetic shape with slanted corners. You can spice up its look with different colored buttons on each side.
