The Atachon Angel is a split controller. Its name comes from the fact that its sides look like wings. That said, here are options for what you can order:
- Left side
- Right side
- Complete set
- Lap dock
You can pick from multiple layouts for the Angel. Put simply, you can have five or nine buttons per side. You can even have keys on there instead of buttons.
You can pick the Angel’s switch colors too. Not only does the controller come with low profile Kailh Choc V2 switches that are faster than a chess grandmaster, the sockets are hot swappable, so you can swap the switches with more ease than the Bee Gees. Otherwise, the switches you can order include blue, red, and clear.
About the lap dock, because the Angel has magnets at the bottom, the controller can attach to the lap dock (or similar accessories). Otherwise, with rubber feet at the bottom, the controller has more stability, such as if you play on a desk.
Moving on, the port of the Angel is USB-C, which is the industry’s favorite. What is even nicer is that the controller comes with USB-C to A and USB-C to C cables. Long gone are the days of having to buy your own cable!
The truth of the matter is that the USB-C to A cable is for connecting the Angel to, say, the PC, and the USB-C to C cable is to connect the sides of the controller to each other.
Firmware-wise, you may be glad to know that the Angel runs on the open source and critically acclaimed GP2040-CE, providing you decent compatibility, negligible input delay, and more goodies.
Now, let us address the elephant in the room: the Angel is made of acrylic, and you may be concerned about the controller’s beauty, especially because acrylic is known to attract fingerprint smudges. However, the controller’s acrylic is frosted, meaning it has a matte texture that should not show smudges.
So, to establish that the Angel looks nice, is there anything else besides its wings that makes it look cooler than a water cooler? The answer is yes: there are optional RGB LEDs you can trigger to make the controller come to life. For the tech savvy, these LEDs are specifically called SK-6812 MINI-E RGB LEDs.
All in all, if you are looking for a controller that allows you to place its sides farther apart than usual, then consider the Angel, especially because it provides you other perks too, and as Frank Sinatra said, “Come fly with me. Let’s fly… Let’s fly away!” 🪽
