Introduction

The Taito Egret II Mini Control Panel is an arcade stick with six action buttons and three function buttons. The USB-A cable comes out of the center back.

The arcade stick is supposed to be an Egret II Mini arcade cabinet accessory, but it can suffice as a PC arcade stick on its own (with the proper drivers).

Unboxing

The arcade stick comes in a small box that is around the same size of the arcade stick itself. The arcade stick is in a pouch, and the USB cable comes tied. Included in the box as well is an instructional manual.

Performance

Thanks to a toggle at the bottom, the joystick is switchable to emulate both octagonal and square gates, but admittedly, the square gate option may not feel as sharp when you hit diagonal directions. Furthermore, missing in action is adequate wrist space, a sacrifice that seems necessary to keep the arcade stick compact.

As for the buttons, they are satisfying to press, and their short travel distance may be reminiscent of Sanwa buttons. The function buttons are for start, select, and menu. Six anti-slip feet can be found at the bottom of the arcade stick.

Hardware

Although this is a mini arcade stick, the hardware is sturdy, and the arcade stick is impressively weighty for its size. Furthermore, the arcade stick seems just thick enough to accommodate a joystick.

Not only should you be able to install your own PCB into the arcade stick, you may also be able to enhance compatibility by way of a third party dongle. Otherwise, the arcade stick does not come with PC drivers preinstalled.

Appearance

The arcade stick has a retro look with pink & gray accents as well as buttons that are blue, pink, and white. As for the cable, it is black. All in all, the arcade stick stays true to the original Taito color scheme.

Conclusion

Even if you do not own an Egret II Mini arcade cabinet, this arcade stick is still worth your consideration.

  • Octagonal gate emulation
  • Snappy buttons
  • Quality hardware
  • Weighty feel
  • Authentic look
  • Four directional performance
  • Little wrist space
