Introduction

The Overdrive is a stickless controller that ships from the United Kingdom. Note that there is another version of the controller called the Overdrive Neo.

Performance

The buttons of the Overdrive can be Qanba Gravity or Sanwa Denshi, the latter of which is known for durability and responsivity, meaning the travel distance is short enough for speedy presses but not too short in a way that causes accidental presses.

The face buttons are labeled so you know what you are doing all the time. The left side of the Overdrive has a small LED button. The secondary buttons on the right, which are also labeled, are for:

  • Start
  • Select
  • Home
  • R3
  • L3

Those who like to play on desks and tables should be glad to know that the bottom of the Overdrive has 5 mm felt padding for stability purposes, which can help with lap play as well.

Whether you play on your lap or a desk, the regular size of the Overdrive allows for ample wrist-resting space, and you can place it on your lap without squeezing your legs together.

Hardware

The Overdrive has a quality aluminum chassis. The weight of the Overdrive may be described as medium, even though it has the robustness of a heavier controller, which is impressive.

The port of the Overdrive is USB-C and can be found on the back left. The Brook UFB Fusion PCB is supported, giving you a wide range of compatibility. Accessing the bottom of the Overdrive is doable by unscrewing six screws. Voila!

Appearance

The Overdrive exudes elegance out of its every crevice. This is a black controller with black buttons on the top panel, blue secondary buttons, and a powder-coated chassis. Furthermore, there is a colored LED strip around the controller.

To the left of the buttons is the word “overdrive” laser-engraved alongside the Japanese letters for “Arc”, which is a reference to Overdrive Arc (or Overdrive Arcade).

The engravement as well as the button labels are in a color that is slightly lighter than the Overdrive’s color but not light enough to distract you during play or take away from the controller’s sheer beauty.

Conclusion

The Overdrive is a piece of art that is compatible with the best parts on the market.

  • Parts compatibility
  • Button labels
  • Aesthetic engravement
  • Powder coating
  • Bottom padding
  • Not too heavy
  • LED strip
