Introduction
You know how games similar to Dark Souls are called Souls-like? Well, the LBER 2040-L16 can be considered Haute-like! That’s right: it is reminiscent of Haute42 controllers—and another controller called the AceGamer A16. It is worth taking a look at this controller, so read on to know why.
Because the L16 has 16 primary buttons, you can use it like a double layout controller without having to pay a fortune to get it. You also save some storage space in your gaming lair.
Anyway, the L16’s main layout is standard leverless, and its secondary layout is WASD. If you pay attention to its uppermost left button, it is the W jump button of the WASD layout. You have access to this layout even if you go for the 13 button edition. Capeesh?
Unboxing
When you order a new L16, you should also be getting what is below for free:
- Eight anti-sliding feet
- Two extra primary buttons
- Two extra function buttons
- Two extra switches
- Switch puller
- Info guide
Performance
All of the L16’s primary buttons are big—so you need not press them with surgical precision—and they make use of fast switches. In any case, you can hot swap them if you like other switches that help you perform better.
The L16 also enables you access to these fundamental function buttons:
- Turbo
- Touch
- Home
- Select
- Start
See the small screen on the L16’s top panel too? Not only can you see your live button presses on it, you can also know which SOCD cleaning, input, and directional modes you currently have deployed.
Hardware
It is at this point that it is crucial to dive into the L16’s hardware, which is simply an acrylic sandwich—held together by eight screws.
Despite being multilayered, the L16 is thin—and it is also big. You can rest your palms on it in comfort, and you can set it on your thighs without squeezing them too closely together. Of course, this controller is also viable for desk placement.
Operationally, the L16 chooses the GP2040-CE firmware as its modus operandi. We are talking about firmware that is updateable, open source, and critically acclaimed. This firmware is popular.
That said, the L16 comes with two ports: a USB-C port near the center back and a USB-A port on the right. This USB-A port is where you can use an adapter to extend the controller’s compatibility.
Appearance
Now, it is important to look stylish while using a controller that also performs well. In this case, the L16 features:
- Black or white color
- Customizable art
- LED support
Black or white? That is simple, but where the customization truly lies is in the art. In fact, we at The Arcade Stick provide custom art, and to show you some examples: below are some digital artworks our artist Budi Kurniawan made for a similarly sized controller. Be sure to reach out to him for a design if you like.
The finishing move is the LED. To be brief, the L16 lets you select aspects like its lighting’s color, brightness, and speed. This results in a well lit controller that adds flair to a slew of performative features.
In other words, this is a controller that both looks good and plays well. To those who are willing to invest relatively little in such a grand package, the L16 is your friend.
