It was modular. It was acrylic. It was slim. The bestselling Furin FRS was (and still is) mind blowing, but it is big, and if you prefer a smaller form factor, you may be glad to know that the FRS Mini exists! It is also acrylic and slim.

This 16 button controller comes with a whopping seven auxiliary buttons that, if needed, you can disable through tournament lockout toggles. Here are three things these toggles can specifically do for the FRS Mini:

  1. Disable all the menu buttons.
  2. Disable only the function button.
  3. Disable both up buttons independently.

That is right: the FRS Mini is a dual layout controller, so you can use it as a standard leverless controller or WASD controller. The jump button is bigger than the rest, allowing you to hit it with the side of either thumb.

The FRS Mini’s buttons can be reprogrammed to your liking through web configuration. These buttons are removable if you wish, and under them, you can find hot swappable Kailh Choc V2 switches that are low profile.

The FRS Mini has got that stainless steel effect surface with rounded edges to keep your wrists nice and comfy as you mash your way to victory. With a full rubber base at the bottom, you can ensure the stability of the controller during a hectic set of matches.

The black USB-C cable is braided and comes with a nifty tie to keep it tidy when not in use. Not only that, the cable is detachable from the FRS Mini for your convenience.

The USB-C port is located in a tactical position: the FRS Mini’s center back, which is optimal to prevent the cable from being an obstacle while you play your favorite fighting game.

The fact of the matter is that the FRS Mini runs on a custom GP2040-CE PCB. After many years, we at The Arcade Stick have become familiar with the GP2040 firmware as critically acclaimed, open source, and able to be updated as time goes on. You can even boost the controller’s compatibility through a dongle to go into the USB-A port on the right side.

Other than that, here is what the FRS Mini’s onboard screen tells you:

  • Input history
  • Input mode
  • SOCD mode
  • Layout visualizer

Truth be told, the FRS Mini has a minimalistic look, but you can spruce it up by way of programmable LEDs that bring the buttons to life. That’s right! There is also a translucent middle layer for optional LEDs within the case, making it glow more than a gold ore.

As a recap up of what the FRS Mini mainly provides you: this is a small and slim controller that still manages to pack 16 buttons, which can shine as you play fighting games across different platforms. Just pack it in a small sleeve, take it to your local tournament, set it safely on your lap, and utilize its fine build to rack up some wins.
