Introduction
The nanoGRAM is a card sized controller that actually works. You can use it to play games from Super Smash Bros to Rivals of Aether.
Unboxing
Your nanoGRAM may come in a GRAM CTRL bag with a smaller bag inside it containing the nanoGRAM and its nano tag. Missing in action is a USB-C cable, probably to make the packaging as small as possible for you.
Performance
Featuring an RP2040 integrated circuit design, you are guaranteed smooth gameplay when using the nanoGRAM, including compatibility with common platforms. No issues were detected when testing this controller.
With traditional mapping, you should feel right at home with the nanoGRAM’s button layout if you are a previous user of rectangle controllers.
The nanoGRAM’s Omron B3F tactile switches are tiny at 7 mm, and they provide you a noticeable click when triggered. That way, you know for sure if a switch has successfully been pressed, which is important when using such a small controller. If you feel like the switches are too clicky for your taste, do not worry as they will likely loosen up over time.
That said, if you are an adult, you will likely find yourself gripping the nanoGRAM more like a regular controller rather than a box controller.
Specifically, you might naturally gravitate towards using your left thumb, right thumb, and right index finger, with the index being bent. Your left index will likely just be holding the upper left corner of the nanoGRAM in place.
Younger players with smaller fingers may be able to use the nanoGRAM like a box controller, meaning on a desk or even their lap.
Hardware
For durability (and style), the nanoGRAM is made of transparent resin. The USB-C port can be found in the center back, which is a good position to prevent the cable from being an obstacle. Needless to say, the cable would be detachable, and as a reminder: you have to grab your own USB-C cable.
Moving on, you can utilize a dongle to enhance the nanoGRAM’s compatibility. As for the firmware, it is the reliable and user friendly HayBox firmware that the Smash community has grown to love.
Appearance
Could GRAM Digital Controllers have spiced up the look of the nanoGRAM a little bit more? Sure, but not every controller is obliged to look flashy. In fact, you might prefer the controller’s minimalistic look.
In any case, you can probably attach anything you like to the corner hoop instead of the nano tag. So, cop a USB-C cable, and enjoy the ride of a lifetime with your miniature nanoGRAM!
Conclusion
GRAM clearly put so much effort and care into this little innovation that is probably as good as it can get.
