Introduction

Doesn’t it grind your gears when a controller is so small that you have to squeeze your legs together just to set it on your lap? Well, the Kyouran Harushion doesn’t suffer from this problem—because it’s so wide—and it also has some rare switches. From now, let’s just call it the Harushion for short. So, shall we?

Unboxing

Admittedly, the Harushion doesn’t come with too many accessories. You basically get:

  • USB-C cable
  • Manual

Still better than nothing, right? You see, some controllers don’t even come with a cable! So, Shinonome Arcade deserves some credit for this.

Performance

The Harushion has 12 buttons that utilize low profile Kailh Choc V1 Pink switches, which we at The Arcade Stick don’t see often. As a reference, Choc V1 Pinks are lighter than most Choc V1s.

If you have another switch preference, the stock switches are hot swappable for your convenience. That said, to make the most out of the Harushion’s buttons, we suggest that you press their center instead of their edges. This should result in an even, accurate press without too much force needed.

By the way, the Harushion has seven tactile buttons for functions like touchpad, PS/home, create/select, options/start, and so on—to aid you in your pursuit of championship gold.

Hardware

As a lightweight and slim controller, the Harushion is also one of the widest. So, you can place it comfortably on your lap as you game for long hours. In addition, the controller has a couple of lanyard loops in its back left and back right.

That said, the Harushion features the dependable Raspberry Pi Pico chip—that runs on the open source GP2040-CE firmware. On the right side, you can find a USB-A port where you can insert your own adapter to extend the compatibility options. Otherwise, the cable goes into the USB-C port approximately in the back center.

Disclaimer: The Harushion doesn’t have bottom corner screws. Does this mean the acrylic will come off while you perform some sick combos? No, but you can literally lift up those acrylic corners if you try to with your fingers.

Appearance

By default, the Harushion is black. It’s because you can see its black PCB through the transparent acrylic. Another option would be custom art, which we at The Arcade Stick can provide you through our service.

Essentially, you’d sandwich the art between the Harushion’s first and second layers. Whichever look you end up with, the black cable should still fit the color scheme.

Something else you can do is activate the Harushion’s LED, which has multiple modes that give you various ways to make the lights glow around the buttons and through the sides.

Final disclaimer: Since 3D printing is involved in the process of Shinonome Arcade putting together the Harushion (by hand), there may be minor imperfections on your unit.

Conclusion

To be honest, the Kyouran Harushion’s ample width is enough of a reason to order it via a proxy service if you don’t live in Japan at the moment. It’s also rad that it uses rare switches.
