Introduction
Roosevelt was the last name of a couple of US presidents. Roosevelt is also the name of the city in Utah that Brian Hill Woodworks ships out of!
The truth is Brian Hill has been around on Etsy for years, satisfying plenty of customers with thousands of sales. Founding this LLC was a dream of Brian’s since high school.
After working hard and saving some money, Brian built his own arsenal of hand and power tools. That way, he could hone his woodworking skills. Through woodworking, he became the happiest he’d ever been.
Brian initially started building furniture and decorum, which eventually led to making arcade cases. That’s why you’re here, right?!
Performance
Fundamentally, Mr. Hill can make you a wooden case that’s in lever or leverless format. You get to choose the layout and even the buttonhole sizes.
Layouts from Noir to Vewlix are available. Do yourself a favor: deck out the case with responsive Sanwa parts, and you should be increasing your chances of winning.
Are snap-in buttons compatible? Well, yes, but they’re not optimal for this case because they won’t be able to snap into place—given the material thickness needing to be a quarter of an inch.
With that being said, here’s a sample lineup of function buttons your case can have:
- Start/options
- Select/share
- Touchpad
- L3
- R3
Those function buttons can be on the top panel or sides. They’re fully sized, so you can press them more easily. On the case’s top, there can even be a little info screen to keep you better informed about what you’re doing with the case. The bottom also has four anti-slip rubber feet so your case stays in place as you’re going on a winning streak online.
Hardware
Needless to say, your case would be handmade by Bryan, and its size would be up to you. The bottom panel only has four removable screws, allowing you fairly fast entry into the interior. As for the back, it can have a toggle and, of course, a USB passthrough.
With that said, let’s dive into the exciting part! What kind of wood is available to you? Check out these four options:
- Oak
- Maple
- Cherry
- Walnut
Oak is dense and strong, while maple is smooth yet hard. Cherry has medium hardness, while walnut is tough and stable. Other wood types are available, sure, but an extra charge may be incurred if the wood is exotic. That aside, let’s talk a bit more about walnut…
Appearance
Walnut comes in a range of colors like:
- Light brown
- Dark brown
- Almost black
- Almost orange
Also, walnut has a bunch of natural features that include (but are not limited to) these four features:
- Feathered grain
- Checks
- Knots
- Pith
Feathered grain is irregular in its pattern, but it adds visual texture. Checks are small surface cracks that are cosmetic boosters. Knots are beautifully circular imperfections that come from branches. Finally, a pith is a tree’s central core that’s a subtle focal point in slabs or cross sections.
That said, Brian doesn’t stain his products. That’s because his cases are finished with the wood’s natural color. Specifically, he finishes his cases with Danish oil. If you like, you can stain the case yourself—that’s fine.
Did you know you can also get free engravement? It can be your name. It can be some character sprites. It can even be special move commands. At Brian Hill Woodworks, customization is the name of the game.
However!
If the design you request is insanely complex, such as including inlays, there could be an additional fee, which is fair. Otherwise, you can even have a design as bombastic as Neo Geo Multi-Video System art on your case—or something similar. Just reach out to us here at The Arcade Stick for a custom art design.
Another way to spice up your case is having a variety of button/joystick colors. One more way: the bottom can be see-through, showing off the wiring that you hopefully excuted neatly.
To wrap up, there can be a BHWoodWorks logo engravement on the bottom, which includes a couple of mountains—embodying the Utah spirit. This way, you know which brand’s case you’re using!
