Introduction
Kylinix is a TIKITAKA subsidiary, which is important because TIKITAKA is one of the most popular brands out there, so its may popularity may seep into Kylinix too, such as with the L14—a mini controller with 14 buttons (as the name indicates). Kylinix sounds like Kleenex, right? And could the “L” part of L14 stand for lightweight? Let’s find out!
Unboxing
When you buy an L14, you should also be getting for free:
- USB-C cable
- Spare switch
- Spare keycap
- Couple of Allen keys
- Six anti-slip bottom pads
Performance
You may have been used to leverless controllers having only 12 main buttons, but the L14 has 14 buttons, which we’ve already established.
With that being said, the L14’s two extra buttons are in a bottom row. You can use these buttons with your thumbs, such as for mechanics like the Drive Impact in Street Fighter 6.
Moving on, the L14’s five function buttons are for:
- Home
- Turbo
- Select
- Touchpad
- Start
Truth be told, the main performance element of the L14 is its Kailh Ghost switches. These switches can be described as light and quiet—yet tactile with a smooth bump and without being too loud. Also, hot swapping is possible.
On a closing note, you have to note that your L14’s performance quality may decrease over time due to wear and tear, so handle it with care.
Hardware
The L14’s acrylic is chamfered so your skin doesn’t get hurt. Furthermore, the controller is slim and light to carry around the world—as you enter sparring sessions with players from Japan to Australia.
That said, the L14 is small enough to fit into a big pocket if yours, such as if you own slacks with big pockets. By the way, six screws hold the controller together.
With a Raspberry Pi chip, the L14 runs on the excellent GP2040-CE firmware. This open source firmware allows you decent compatibility options plus unnoticeable input delay. Add to that SOCD cleaning to stay tournament-legal.
A great thing about the L14 is how you can insert a dongle into its USB-A port to extend its compatibility options with more consoles. This port can be found on the left.
On the L14’s left, you can also find a USB-C port. Want another USB-C port? One more port can be found in the back! Pick and choose your most convenient location.
Appearance
The L14 looks nice and simple—if cute. The star of the show, however, is the RGB LED that shines through the buttons. Cycle through the different lighting modes until you find the mode of your dreams. Not only that, you can apply custom art to the controller, such as through our bestselling custom art service here at The Arcade Stick.
