Unboxing
The Rushbox Mini comes in a snug brown box with black foam inside—as well as a puller and detachable USB-C cable that’s tied for your convenience.
Performance
The Rushbox Mini is considered a quiet controller due to its Kailh Purple Swallowtail silent switches, which are still hot swappable with Kailh Choc V2 switches if you prefer louder switches. Otherwise, here are the stock switches’ specs:
- Actuation force: 30 gf
- Actuation point: 0.8 mm
- Stroke: 1.8 mm
In other words, the Rushbox Mini’s switches are low profile and light to press. Moving on, the controller features 16 buttons, meaning there are four extra buttons than the classic 12 button layout. Furthermore, six of these buttons are positioned in a rare layout, and you can press these buttons with your:
- Left pinky
- Left thumb
- Right thumb
- Right index
- Right pinky
- Right palm
Are 16 buttons too many for you, by the way? You can disable or at least remap the Rushbox Mini’s buttons through web configuration.
You can even customize what the tournament mode does. By default, the tournament mode disables the Rushbox Mini’s start and home function buttons. Speaking of function buttons, there are five of them, which are for:
- Start
- Select
- L3
- R3
- Home
Now, we need to address the crucial question of: is the Rushbox Mini’s layout too intimidating? The truth is that the button size and distance isn’t uniform throughout the controller, but don’t fret: this was done on purpose.
In other words, this layout is supposed to be optimal both performance-wise and comfort-wise. Not only that, even if you’re a leverless beginner, you should still be able to get the hang of the Rushbox Mini.
One word of advice, however, is to not rely too much on the Rushbox Mini’s right palm button. Its location is a bit of a reach—both literally and proverbially. That said, maybe you should use it as a training-mode reset button or something along those lines.
Hardware
Made of chamfered (and laminated) acrylic, the Rushbox Mini has got to be the lightest Rushbox to date. It’s also slim, so you can slide it into a tablet sleeve and go conquer the next tournament.
You can actually extend your Rushbox Mini’s compatibility options with additional consoles if you have your own USB-A dongle to do so. Note that this controller is also compatible with the original Nintendo Switch without a dongle.
Otherwise, it’s interesting how recessed the Rushbox Mini’s USB-C port is. It’s recessed to prevent the cable from popping out unintentionally during a high stakes match.
Other than that, the Rushbox Mini does have this one OLED screen powered by the reputable RP2040 microcontroller (and custom PCB) that keeps you aware of your current:

- SOCD cleaning mode
- Button press animation
Appearance
The Rushbox Mini’s black keycaps (and black cable) are a nice match for its simple art. Flip the controller, and you can see the PCB. Yet, one of the controller’s coolest aesthetic aspects is its customizable art.
