VSLAB N14B

Introduction

The VSLAB VSNOVA N14 has 14 buttons—as its name indicates. VSLAB is a subsidiary of TIKITAKA, which is one of the leading leverless brands in terms of sales and popularity.

Unboxing

Your N14 should arrive in a tight box to avoid rattling. This box opens up like a briefcase, and inside, you should find the controller housed in sleek black foam. The controller itself would be in bubble wrap.

The N14 comes with free stuff! Here is the list:

  • Two brackets
  • Keycap puller
  • Spare keycaps
  • Spare switches
  • Two sets of spare screws
  • Eight non-slip silicone sheets
  • Two non-slip pads
  • USB-C cable

The above items are pretty self-explanatory, although the brackets help you prop up the N14 at an angle. This is admittedly not a popular tactic for leverless users, but it’s nice that the brackets come for free.

Performance

The N14’s jump button is bigger than the 13 other primary buttons. This way, your thumb presses the jump button more easily without the need for surgical precision.

Moving on, the N14 has four square-shaped function buttons:

  1. Select
  2. Home
  3. Touchpad
  4. Start

Thankfully, the N14 uses fast Gateron Kasumi Axis switches that are also quiet. These are low profile switches that allow you to pull off combos with almost zero delay.

You don’t want bad switches decreasing your chances of winning a tournament. However, it’s important to note that the N14’s buttons have frames around them, which you may find to be an obstacle, but truth be told, they shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

In fact, you might even prefer the N14’s button frames. In any case, changing the buttons may offset any downsides stemming from the frames.

Hardware

Held together by nine screws, the N14 is made of acrylic that’s chamfered to comfort your skin. This controller is light and slim yet large enough for your wrists to rest on it.

Moreover, the N14 is wide enough to set on your lap without squeezing your legs together, cutting off blood supply. Lap play is supplemented by the non-slip pads.

By the way, the N14 runs on the RP2040, so its OLED screen shows your:

  • Current input mode
  • Current directional mode
  • Current SOCD cleaning mode
  • Animation of your button presses

Listen, maybe you’re not a Nintendo Switch player… That’s fine because the PlayStation 5 edition of the N14 is actually compatible without the need for buying some extra converter. Better save money for a rainy day, right?

Let’s say you do have a converter, though. Well, you should be able insert that into a USB-A port on the N14’s right to increase its compatibility options. As for the two USB-C ports, you should be able to find those in the left and backsides of the controller.

The N14’s back is where you can also find toggles for:

  • PS5 & PC
  • SOCD
  • LED

Appearance

You can buy the N14 in multicolored or black editions—with the black edition being more minimalistic as it lacks function buttons labels. As for the controller’s bottom, its acrylic is frosted.

(At least when it comes to the N14’s multicolored edition, its cable is white—which suits the color scheme.)

The N14’s chamfered edges not only comfort you but make the controller look nicer as well. Two more ways in which you can make your brand new controller look even more beautiful:

  1. Enjoy a variety of RGB LED preset modes.
  2. Slap some custom art on the controller.

For custom art, we at The Arcade Stick would love for you to try out our custom art service. You won’t be disappointed! We’ve been around for years, and we’re eager to know what kind of art instructions you have for your N14.

Conclusion

If you don’t need 16 or more buttons: the N14 is a fine option with chamfered acrylic, customizable art, and cool LED.

  • 14 buttons
  • Fast switches
  • Chamfered acrylic
  • Frosted bottom panel
  • Light, slim, and spacious
  • PS5 or Switch compatibility
  • Multicolored or black
  • Customizable art
  • Shiny LED
  • OLED screen
  • Three USB ports
  • Three toggles too
  • Included accessories
  • Button frames not for everyone
