Overview

Ever heard of akecon—a Japanese term that means arcade controller? Well, Yamacon means mountain controller, and it’s one of the most unusual ergonomic controllers you’ve ever seen!

The Yamacon by Cider Workshop has a little rest for your left hand, whereas there’s a big rest for your right hand—plus all the attack buttons being raised.

The right hand rest allows you to press the lower attack button cluster with your mid-fingers. This rest raises the Yamacon’s height from 2.2″ to 3.9″.

That said, here’s the Yamacon’s button size lineup for you:

  • Seven 24 mm directional buttons
  • Eight 20 mm attack buttons
  • One 30 mm jump button
  • Two oval thumb buttons

The Yamacon’s two oval buttons are actually on the inner sides of both hand rests—to be pressed by your thumbs. From left to right, the thumb buttons are for Street Fighter 6’s Drive Impact and Drive Parry respectively, but of course, this controller is suitable for other games too.

By the way, the Yamacon has three function buttons on its top panel’s upper left, and they perform these functions (from left to right):

  1. Capture
  2. Home
  3. Start

In general, the Yamacon buttons’ actuation point is 0.5 mm, and their total stroke is 1 mm. This makes these 3D printed buttons some of the fastest to date, resulting in quicker reactions to your opponent.

Another performance booster is the Yamacon’s non-slip sponge pad at the bottom, which helps with desk and lap play—and keeps your lap warm if the AC is too cold. Lap play becomes even better when you factor in the case’s decent width.

Now, let’s talk hardware.

Despite being relatively light, the Yamacon is made of metal. It’s also interesting how you can see a couple of screws on the top panel. Moreover, there’s a USB-B port in the center back.

Need to extend your Yamacon’s compatibility with additional modern consoles? Just insert an appropriate converter, and you should be good to go. By the way, a 190 mm connection cable is included with your purchase.

Let’s wrap up with some talk about the visuals!

The Yamacon may look a little rough, especially the way the hand rests are finished. Aside from that, this is a silver controller with jet black buttons.

In addition to the Yamacon’s top being silver, the left and right sides are silver as well, while the front and back are black. If you’re a minimalist, you may dig this overall color scheme.

That said, we know you’ve been grinding online day in and day out, but one more step you can take to increase your winning chances is to improve your tools…

So, if you think the Yamacon’s innovative design has the possibility of levitating your game from average to savage, then give Cider Workshop’s BOOTH store a look—to see if this controller is worth a buy for you.
