Overview

Just like Shin Akuma is an overpowered version of Akuma, the Shin Arashi is an overpowered version of the Arashi by SaveYourGames, but in what ways is it overpowered?

  1. The Shin Arashi is bigger than the Arashi.
  2. It’s available in lever and leverless formats.

(The lever format is called the Shin Arashi Arcade Stick, and the leverless format—Shin Arashi Leverless. Simple!)

Not only that, the Shin Arashi’s function buttons are on the right side—instead of the top panel. This new location reduces the chances that you’ll press these function buttons accidentally. Also, it’s likelier you’re right handed, which is probably why SaveYourGames chose the right side.

That said, the Shin Arashi uses Sanwa OBSC buttons that are feather sensitive and quieter than average. These premium buttons are spread out in a layout where your right index finger and both thumbs are put to use.

More than that, the Shin Arashi’s extra thumb buttons are in a horizontally straight line, keeping your thumbs in a symmetrical position. This is unlike controllers that have the right thumb button sitting higher up the panel than the left thumb one.

(Buying the Shin Arashi’s lever edition instead? You can choose from Sanwa, Seimitsu, or Samducksa joysticks. You can also choose from Vewlix, Sega 2P, or Street Fighter 6 layouts.)

Moving on, the Shin Arashi can feature a high end Brook PCB that’s multiplatform and low latency. Continuing on about its hardware, the controller is 3D printed with care in four parts:

  1. Top
  2. Bottom
  3. Bracket layout
  4. Closing clip

Now, here’s the Shin Arashi’s main selling point: for mods and repairs, the controller can open up like a toolkit, meaning you don’t need any tools or knowledge of carpentry. It’s not the first time that such a design has been made, but it’s still rare.

Visually, the Shin Arashi is shaped differently—less rectangular and boxy—compared to its predecessor. You can choose the colors of the case/joystick/buttons, and you can even choose the closing clip’s color.

All the Shin Arashi’s parts can have different colors. We’re talking about the main buttons having different colors—as well as the function buttons having different colors. The case can even have a bit of a visual texture to it.

By the way, you’re only six screws away from swapping out the Shin Arashi’s stock artwork under its plexiglass. If you’d like some custom art, please feel free to reach out to us here at The Arcade Stick for our age old service.

That way, you can look at your Shin Arashi with pride whenever you’re playing at home or even competing to a tournament—that you can win because of the unique controller’s quality parts!
