Introduction
“I like to move it, move it,” sang the lemur in the blockbuster movie, Madagascar. Speaking of moving, the X-Move by Haute42 is a sequel to its modular controller that was released a while ago and got nominated for an Evo award as a result. Eventually, this bestselling brand did win an Evo award!
That said, the X-Move consists of three modules:
- Directional module
- Attack module
- Bottom module
Unboxing
What you should be receiving in your X-Move’s black box:
- Three function buttons (6 mm)
- Crystal switch
- Switch puller
- USB-C cable
- Manual
Performance
You can shift the X-Move’s attack and bottom modules to the left or right according to your preference. You can also rotate the directional module up to 30° to find the most convenient angle for you. This module can feature a joystick, keys, or buttons.
If you go for the buttons, the directional and attack buttons are 23.5 mm, whereas the bottom buttons are 25.8 mm. At the time of the X-Move’s release, the maximum number of buttons you can go for is 14. The buttons utilize Kailh Shadow Hunting custom switches that are low profile and hot swappable.
In addition to tournament and light locks, the X-Move’s six function buttons are for:
- Turbo
- Left stick
- Right stick
- Home
- Back
- Start
The X-Move’s function buttons are complemented by a screen that can show your SOCD, turbo, input, and directional modes—as well as a live animation of your button presses. Needless to say, web configuration strikes back too.
Hardware
The X-Move is made of CNC aluminum alloy. It’s about the size of A4, and it’s slim. Its palm resting space is slightly sloped, and it has two non-slip bottom pads (one per leg of yours). Not only that, it’s got two USB-C ports:
- Lockable USB-C port in the center back
- Another USB-C port on the left side
If you’d like to extend your X-Move’s compatibility options to support more consoles, there’s a USB-A port on the right side where you can insert a converter like the BOOTER 5.
Appearance
The X-Move is a black controller that’s spray coated for better wear resistance and less fingerprint smudges. Even the black cable and switches fit the vibe. However, if the controller looks too plain for you, you can make use of the multicolored backlight and button LED.
But hey, did you know that you can add custom art to the X-Move? In fact, we at The Arcade Stick have a custom art service for such endeavors. Our artist Abimbola Olaoya even made a design for the X series before:
(If you’ve got some X-Move art already, we can just print it for you.)
Conclusion
The X-Move allows you to switch between lever and leverless layouts on the go. It also lets you rotate its directional module—as well as shift its attack and bottom modules sideways.
In addition, the modular design allows the X-Move to accept other innovative modules that Haute42 may release in the future, keeping you up to date with the latest tech—and increasing your chances of winning matches.
