Introduction
Following the groundbreaking success of the bestselling M16 Ultra, it was inevitable for the award winning Haute42 to eventually come up with a sequel: the M Ultra Gen2.
Unboxing
When you buy a M Ultra Gen2, your order should also arrive with:

Performance
The M Ultra Gen2’s main difference compared to its awesome predecessor is having a left pinky button. You should find the other extra buttons useful, especially the upper left button that can be used as the W button of the WASD layout, meaning this is a dual layout controller.
Because most of the buttons are 25.8 mm, the M Ultra Gen2 is best for players with big hands, but if you have small hands, you should still be able to perform.
The two buttons surrounding the M Ultra Gen2’s jump button are 23.5 mm, and they’re horizontally aligned. Because of the overclocked polling rate, in general, the buttons have less than a millisecond of input lag.
Regarding the M Ultra Gen2’s 6 mm function buttons, they’re labeled:

T stands for turbo. Anyway, you can also find a tournament lock and light lock on the top panel’s far left. That said, the M Ultra Gen2 uses the popular and fast Shadow Hunting low profile switches, but if you prefer other switches, you can just hot swap them. It’s worth noting that the controller has a sloped space for your wrists to rest, and the bottom has an anti-slip design—with a grip pad for each leg.
Hardware
The M Ultra Gen2 is a CNC aluminum alloy controller that’s heavy enough to stay stable—without being too heavy to carry—but if your room is cold, the controller may get cold too.
Thankfully, because the M Ultra Gen2 is a metallic controller, you shouldn’t experience any warping when gently pressing it. Also, the controller’s size means that it might fit into a tablet sleeve you already own.
Moving on, the M Ultra Gen2 runs on the acclaimed GP2040-CE firmware. More than that, there’s an OLED display to inform you about the current:
- SOCD mode
- Input mode
- Directional mode
You can even see which buttons you’re pressing live on that display. Another thing you can do is make the M Ultra Gen2’s display show the picture you want. To meet your needs, the controller has multiple SOCD cleaning modes, and there’s built-in web config too.
The M Ultra Gen2’s lockable USB-C port is in the center back, so the cable shouldn’t get in your way. You can go for a USB-C port on the left side as well.
An EXT port can be found on the right, and this extra port allows you to insert a converter for more modern console compatibility. For example, you can use Haute42’s BOOTER 5 with the M Ultra Gen2.
Appearance
Also available in blue, the M Ultra Gen2 has an elegant black design with some accents, and it shouldn’t attract as many smudges as acrylic. In fact, it’s spray painted to prevent fingerprints—as well as prevent wear and tear.
The controller’s slimness adds to its visual appeal, and so does the custom RGB LED that brings the controller to life.
