Overview
Despite being on a livestream, he was so upset with his loss that he got up—and then tossed his arcade stick right onto the floor!
A while back, you might have caught a glimpse of that legendary moment in tournament history when—in fighting game slang—the player was visibly salty. You know what else is based on the term, salty? The DoubleSalt by Y Lab!
Double the salt, double the layout…
Built by hand in France, your order of a brand new DoubleSalt hitstick should arrive with:
- Double protective layer
- Some bubble wrap
- Sturdy cardboard
- Reinforced edges
The kind of hitstick that the DoubleSalt is can be described as a full fightstick and full leverless controller in one, meaning you can use either/or.
Premium Sanwa JLF/JLX joysticks (or similar ones) are compatible with the DoubleSalt. More than that, this hitstick has an interesting take on the leverless layout…
You see, the DoubleSalt’s directional buttons have an aggressive slant. Also, most of these directional buttons are 24 mm—except for the 30 mm jump button.
The attack buttons are 30 mm as well, and they’re in the popular Sega 2P layout. That said, preassembled versions of the DoubleSalt come with Qanba Gravity LX buttons that are quiet, consistent, and durable. Otherwise, you can grab this hitstick in DIY format.
In general, screw-in buttons are recommended, but snap-in buttons are also compatible with the DoubleSalt. In its back right, you can find three 24 mm buttons for functions like:
- Start
- Back
- Home
In addition, the OLED screen allows you to see your DoubleSalt’s inputs in visual form. You can also see your:
- Input mode
- Directional mode
- SOCD cleaning mode
At this point, you may have guessed that preassembled DoubleSalts come with GP2040 breakout boards. Multiplatform Brook boards are compatible as well. For your convenience, there’s a PCB tray with a cable management slot.
To extend the DoubleSalt’s compatibility options, you can insert your own adapter. Needless to say, the USB-C cable is detachable for your convenience.
Structurally, the DoubleSalt is a slim hitstick that’s 3D printed from 3 mm PMMA with a wrist rest and non-slip foam feet. The hitstick even has handles to run, say, a shoulder strap through it.
Looks-wise, the DoubleSalt comes in at least four colors:
- Smoke red
- Smoke black
- Crystal blue
- Crystal purple
The DoubleSalt’s crystal editions are clear and accept custom art, which we at The Arcade Stick specialize in. In other words, we have a custom art service.
To wrap up, here are the top reasons to buy a DoubleSalt today:
- Hitstick with two layouts in one
- Slanted directional buttons
- Extendable compatibility
- Custom art (crystal editions)
