Introduction
Could the LP-01 be Akekon Dojo’s magnum opus? It has some innovative features that could pique your interest. Read on to find out more about this interesting fightstick!
Unboxing
Put simply, your LP-01 should also arrive with:
- Two cables to connect buttons
- LED system remote control
(Note that the required CR2025 battery is sold separately.)
Performance
It’s great that the LP-01 uses Sanwa parts. Specifically, it has a JLF-TP-8YT-SK-K joystick supplemented with a dozen OBSF-24 buttons. This means that you have four more buttons than usual—to be pressed by your thumb and index.
That said, the joystick is flexible, fast, and clicky—whereas the light buttons sound crisp and have an optimal travel distance. On a side note, the LP-01 has a subtle wrist slope that may help you play longer without pain.
On the LP-01’s top panel, you can find a couple of function buttons, and you can find one more back panel button. There’s something interesting about this back panel button that we’d love to tell you about shortly.
By the way, have you noticed that the LP-01 has a little screen? It provides you valuable intel like:
- Input mode
- Turbo mode
- Directional mode
- SOCD cleaning mode
- Button press animation
(On that screen, the LP-01’s four extra buttons appear under the eight other buttons—not in their actual locations.)
Hardware
The LP-01 has a moderate weight. Its grooves—which are present on the front, back, and side panels—might help you carry it if needed. With four bottom feet, the fightstick can be as stable as Sable (the wrestler).
Though, the LP-01’s most intriguing hardware element is its magnetic bottom, which allows you to open it up quickly to access the internals.
The LP-01’s interior is fairly organized, and in it, you should find the reliable Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller board that the fightstick runs on. As for the USB-C port, you can find it in the fightstick’s back (specifically in the center left).
Appearance
The LP-01 has that Qanba Obsidian look. Yet, one of the things that make it different is its black color—apart from its nine white buttons.
More interestingly, the LP-01 has LED that can light up:
- Two top panel strips
- Two side panel strips
- Front panel strip
- Back panel button
Just keep in mind that—because the LP-01 is printed three-dimensionally—it may have some imperfections, although Akekon Dojo tries to reduce those. Also, we hope that the six screws visible on the top panel don’t grind your gears!
Conclusion
The LP-01’s Sanwa parts, generous button count, and sheer size make it a worthy arcade stick to take to a tournament—and possibly win it. If you’re digging this fightstick but don’t live in Japan, you can still order it through a proxy service.
