Overview
Quick Japanese crash course! Tarareba may be translated to “if only I had” or roughly to “what if”, meaning this brand unlocks a world of hypothetical possibilities related to fighting game controllers. As for Akecon, it simply means arcade controller.
That said, the Tarareba Akecon can have a pretty unusual button layout, such as by having three buttons go down the layout’s center. In general, this button layout seems best for games like Street Fighter 6.
You can probably request a custom button layout as well. Tarareba has already done plenty of experimentation in this regard. The Tarareba Akecon can even come with a joystick if you really want.
But what good is an innovative button layout without some good buttons?
In some cases, the Tarareba Akecon uses a combination of 24 mm Qanba D-lite buttons and one 30 mm Punk Workshop Blaze button. For your time, here’s a quick descriptive guide for each button type:
- D-lite: light actuation with a crisp rebound
- Blaze: deep with tactile feedback
By the way, the 30 mm button can be the left thumb button. If used as a jump button, it can be pressed more easily with your thumb’s side.
The Tarareba Akecon’s performance is further bolstered by a low latency Pico board. To find this board, you can conveniently remove the top panel magnetically and access the interior (through 10 magnets).
You see, the Tarareba Akecon is 3D printed from leftover filament such as PLA alone—or a mixture of PLA and PETG. In fact, the top panel looks like it’s four conjoined panels, which is a unique design to say the least. For now, here’s a brief description of each popular plastic material:
- PLA: crisply detailed with minimal warping
- PETG: impact resistant with little flex
Both plastics are durable, but due to its 3D printed and handmade nature, your Tarareba Akecon may arrive with some scratches. In the future, this controller is expected to improve more and more.
For the most part, the Tarareba Akecon’s look can be described as rectangular with round corners. It’s got a black enclosure—with a combo of black and white buttons. It has been spotted with four function buttons that are sometimes colored:
- Black
- Blue
- Green
- Yellow
If you’re bold enough, you can buy the Tarareba Akecon now from BOOTH with global shipping using the Buyee shipment option—or you can wait until the Tarareba Akecon evolves from good to great!
