Introduction
What happens when a seasoned keyboard maker like CORSAIR makes a leverless controller? The result is one of the most feature-heavy controllers yet: the Novablade Pro Wireless Hall Effect Leverless Fight Controller!
You see, the Novablade Pro has 15 main buttons and an additional WASD layout. The function buttons are for:
- Create
- PS
- Options
- Game mode
- Profile
- FN
- L3
- R3
Unboxing
You can expect your Novablade Pro package to come with the following items:
- Novablade Pro in a white sleeve
- Black braided USB-C cable with a tie
- Black CORSAIR USB-C to A adapter
Performance
The Novablade Pro’s buttons are essentially CORSAIR’s own keycaps, which sound louder than average. They’re all 24 mm—with the exception of the 30 mm jump button. The bigger jump button lets you press it with either thumb’s side more easily.
Speaking of thumb buttons, the Novablade Pro has two extra thumb buttons: one for your left thumb and one for the right. The right thumb button is elevated to be closer to the attack button cluster.
You may find yourself having to reach farther to press that right thumb button, which is probably why this design has been slowly getting phased out around the Novablade Pro’s launch time.
Aside from that, the Novablade Pro’s Rapid Trigger feature allows its buttons to instantly reset after 0.1 mm. You can adjust each of the buttons’ actuation points in 0.1 mm increments all the way up to a deep 4 mm.
By the way, are you competing in a tournament soon? If so, press the Novablade Pro’s game mode button to deactivate the Rapid Trigger, and this mode also helps you avoid disqualification—plus more. Not just that, CORSAIR’s FlashTap SOCD technology cleans up simultaneous opposing cardinal directions.
Moving on…
The Novablade Pro’s switches are also CORSAIR’s own. These MGX Hyperdrive switches are magnetic and come with a Hall effect. More than that, the switches are lubricated and have a double-rail design that should last you a whopping 150 million presses!
It’s worth noting, however, that the Novablade Pro using CORSAIR’s own switches (and keycaps) means that swapping them out for other parts can be difficult. Fortunately, the stock parts are great, and again, the actuation is adjustable.
That said, the Novablade Pro has eight G-keys (from G1 to G8) that are programmable to your liking. Five of the G-keys can be found on the main buttons’ right. In fact, the controller lets you quickly swap between button setups, thanks to the five onboard memory profiles.
The three remaining G-keys are actually the Novablade Pro’s extra main buttons (left middle finger, left thumb, and right thumb). As for the touchpad, it doubles as a PC trackpad.
Hardware
Thankfully, the slim Novablade Pro is sized well for desk and lap play—with both surfaces benefiting from a full non-slip base—but how do we connect this controller to a console?
The Novablade Pro is officially licensed by Sony, so you can enjoy native PlayStation 5 compatibility—in addition to PlayStation 4 backwards compatibility.
Not only that, the Novablade Pro is even expected to work on the future PlayStation 6! Such is usually the case with Sony licensed controllers…
For now, you can pick from PS5/PS4/PC through a toggle. Also, a USB-C port is conveniently located in the Novablade Pro’s center back. You can connect the controller through one of these options you can choose via another toggle:
- Wired
- Bluetooth
- 2.4 GHz wireless
The wireless option works fantastically, but a pet peeve about the Novablade Pro is that its toggles are hidden under the top plate. Luckily, the top plate is magnetic & easy to remove, and you’re probably not going to use the toggles all the time anyway.
Appearance
Simply put, the Novablade Pro has dynamic 360° RGB lighting, so the beautiful LightEdge can illuminate the controller’s sides—plus button LEDs. Otherwise, the black controller looks elegant with the lights off.
By the way, our designer Carlos Martinez made the art below for his client’s Novablade Pro—we printed it too—and you might also be interested in some custom art from him:
