Introduction
The FightBox F series is one of the pioneers of leverless controllers decked out with premium Sanwa buttons. This series has many editions with different layouts available.
In fact, the F series’ selection is insane, yet the F-Pro can be considered the final boss of this legendary series—given how it has a whopping 17 main buttons!
Performance
The F-Pro lets you play like a pro. In other words, it has Sanwa OBSF buttons with a lightweight press and satisfying sound. Just like many leverless controllers, three of the directional buttons are 24 mm, and the jump button is 30 mm.
What’s not standard, however, is the F-Pro’s awesome 17 button layout that puts your following fingers to use—to press five extra buttons:
- Right index finger
- Right thumb
- Left thumb
- Left pinky
- Left middle finger
Your left middle finger specifically can unlock an additional layout on your F-Pro, which is the WASD layout. Essentially, your left middle finger can press the W part of WASD, which is an extra jump button. The other buttons—you should be able to map however you please.
But yo, did you know that the F-Pro’s attack buttons are Sanwa too? Though, the aux buttons are not Sanwa… They’re Baolian, and they’re stiffer—a blessing in disguise because there’s a lower chance you’ll press them accidentally.
That aside, let’s conclude this performance section by telling you what your F-Pro’s six aux buttons could do:
| Back Left Buttons | Back Right Buttons | Right Side Buttons |
|---|---|---|
| Touchpad | R3 | Options |
| Share | L3 | PS |
Hardware
The F-Pro’s case material is metal that feels good, whereas the panel material is acrylic that is not malleable. Not only that, the weight is decent.
You see, there are not four but six feet at the F-Pro’s bottom, which are stable enough to not make the controller slide during play, but it’s also possible to move the controller around if you want to—making it a win-win situation.
Now, opening up the F-Pro’s case may take longer than average…
You can remove the six bottom screws with a tool such as the Phillips PH1. You can then use a long flathead screwdriver to access the top panel’s plastic nail retainers through the F-Pro’s bottom panel.
Then, remove the two USB screws, which is a useful implementation that allows you to replace the USB-B port if needed. The F-Pro’s case is quite thin, but you’ll eventually notice that the wiring inside is neat, which is impressive.
That said, it’s time for another table—this time telling you the F-Pro’s PCB options—along with multiplatform console support and affordability details:
| PCB | Description |
|---|---|
| Pico Plus | Limited support but affordable |
| Brook Gen-5 | More support but pricier |
| Brook Gen-5X | Max support but priciest |
Appearance
The white, black, and red combo works rather nicely for the F-Pro. You can choose a primarily black edition as well. The finish is of a decent quality, and minimalists should be particularly fond of the color scheme.
If you choose the F-Pro’s black edition, however, the top panel can show fingerprint smudges, but that is expected with acrylic, and you can always wipe down smudges with a cloth intermittently.
Having said that, the F-Pro’s bottom panel may have questionable imprints—in addition to a vent. Regardless, you shouldn’t be seeing the bottom panel during playtime anyway.
If you go for the clear acrylic edition and would like custom art for your F-Pro, our artist Felipe Fernandez can do that for you (like he made custom art for this controller before):
