Overview
It’s an animal you might have seen rummaging through the neighborhood dumpster. It’s also the mascot of the Raccoon Board—a mini leverless controller that may improve your fighting game skills from average to carnage.
With that being said, the Raccoon Board should come with a braided cable, and its packaging box should have a little breathing room within it.
As for the Raccoon Board itself, it has a dozen primary buttons of the same size. Furthermore, there are six function buttons, which should be enough for modern fighting games. Unless you remap them, the function buttons are as follows (from left to right):
- Start
- Select
- Home
- L2
- R2
- L3
That said, your brand new Raccoon Board will likely arrive with Kailh Choc V1 Red switches. These low profile switches are faster than Obafemi Martins, meaning you can DP your jumping opponent faster (or sidestep his/her electric with finesse).
Yet another performance booster the Raccoon Board has is an anti-slip pad that covers most of the bottom panel. This pad should come in handy if you like to play with a controller on a desk.
Since the Raccoon Board is a bit bigger than most mini controllers, you should be able to fit it on your lap too—without squeezing your legs together so hard in a way that may cut off circulation.
Let’s talk hardware.
Most likely made of acrylic, the Raccoon Board is held together by six screws. Since the controller is see-through by default, you can readily see which PCB it has—which can be from a simple Raspberry Pi Pico chip to a high end Brook board with modern console compatibility. Not just that, the USB-C port comes out a convenient location in the back right, and the controller even features a magnetic cable design.
Now, you may be interested in buying a Raccoon Board edition that has an OLED screen. Thanks to the open source (and highly popular) GP2040 firmware, such a screen usually shows your current:
- Input mode
- Directional mode
- SOCD cleaning mode
- Live animation of button presses
At this point, it’s worth noting that the black cable suits the Raccoon Board—whether you get the dark, light, or custom art edition. That’s correct: custom art is possible, and we at The Arcade Stick can even hook you up with our popular artwork service. Actually, here’s some art our designer Felipe Fernandez made for a controller with a similar concept:
If you don’t go for custom art, we hope you enjoy seeing the Raccoon Board text—along with the logo’s mascot who seems like a bearded man-raccoon hybrid wearing an eyepatch. Maybe he’s channeling his inner Sagat!
By the way, there’s a chance that your Raccoon Board has a white—and unbraided—cable. Regardless, the buttons are always white, which is thankfully a color that matches all.
You may even be bold enough to go with a Raccoon Board edition that has LED, making the buttons shine like a neon sign. Otherwise, it’s interesting that the function buttons range in colors from black to white to gray—and even red.
Have we closed you yet? If not, head on over to Raccoon Board’s BOOTH store—which ships globally—and see all the variations to determine which edition is likeliest to get you to grandmaster rank online the fastest.
