Overview
Over the years, BattleMonkey has released some of the most flamboyantly shaped controllers to date, so it’s no surprise that the Mjolnir is also a sight to behold.
Named after Thor’s legendary hammer, the mid-sized Mjolnir has a 16:9 aspect ratio with the goal of making it perfectly comfortable to place on your lap. This experience is boosted by EPDM rubber pads that are durable. There’s a pad per leg of yours.
You see, the Mjolnir allows you to choose from multiple lever or leverless layouts based on your needs. This controller is thick enough to house even Korean joysticks.
When you buy it, the Mjolnir’s button possibilities include (but are not necessarily limited to):
- Sanwa OBSF
- Seimitsu Alutimo
- Enth KRM
Meanwhile, joystick possibilities include the Sanwa JLX-2 or Crown 309MJ. The Mjolnir can also accept some of the finest PCBs known to humankind, allowing you access to compatibility with the latest consoles—plus almost zero input delay.
Gonna be competing in a tournament soon? You’re in luck because the Mjolnir has a tournament lock that disables function buttons when you don’t need them. This prevents you from getting disqualified for pausing mid-game, for example.
By default, the Mjolnir displays what BattleMonkey calls a nature finish. In other words, it looks like it was carved out of your backyard’s tree! 🌳
The truth is the Mjolnir’s material is made out of a natural sheet of cork. This is possibly the first time that The Arcade Stick has come across such material.
In typical BattleMonkey fashion, you can still customize the Mjolnir’s art. We at The Arcade Stick would love to help you with that. In fact, check out this art our illustrator Gilbert Han illustrated and colored for a client’s BattleMonkey controller before:
You can even customize the art on the Mjolnir’s sides and bottom. Otherwise…
- You can choose the sides’ color.
- The bottom is mainly see-through.
It’s quite spacious and neat inside the Mjolnir, but outside, you can see six screws from the top, and four more screws surround the joystick (if you choose a lever build).
That said, set some time aside to let Victor from BattleMonkey know the layout of your dreams—plus how you’d like your Mjolnir to look—and you can pull up at the next tournament in style (potentially winning it too)!
