Introduction

Congratulations! You have stumbled across one of Akekon Dojo’s flagship fightsticks, the DP-5, which has been released in more than one version over time.

Unboxing

If you like to tinker, you can buy the DP-5 in DIY format. If not, you can just buy it preassembled—plug and play. That said, here’s what comes with the DIY format specifically:

  • Three 12 mm buttons
  • Base mount set
  • USB mount
  • LED system

Performance

Maybe it ruffles your feathers that a lot of fightsticks have 30 mm buttons. Maybe you have smaller fingers and therefore prefer smaller buttons—or have bigger fingers yet still prefer smaller buttons in a compact layout. In this case, you should add the DP-5 to your shopping cart—because it mostly has 24 mm buttons.

The DP-5 has an unbranded joystick and 11 or 13 unbranded buttons that are mostly 24 mm. The leftmost thumb button is the only one bigger than 24 mm.

Now, we say 11 or 13 buttons because the top row may have one or three buttons, depending on which DP-5 edition you choose. Having said that, you can also find the three following 12 mm function buttons on the top panel:

  1. Start
  2. Home
  3. Free

To end the performance section, you may be delighted to know that the DP-5 has four rubber feet—to keep it as stable as cable television.

Hardware

For its size, the DP-5 is relatively light. Moreover, the fightstick uses a Raspberry Pi Pico H microcontroller unit, which—compared to the vanilla version—has soldered headers plus a three-pin debug connector. For your knowledge, you can find a USB-C port in the fightstick’s back left.

Most interestingly, the DP-5 has a magnetically opening bottom, so you can quickly open up the fightstick to access its interior for mods, repairs, and so forth. Specifically, there’s a hole where you can stick your finger, and voila, the bottom panel comes off!

Appearance

The DP-5 can have top & side panels in one color, accents in another color, and a bottom panel in one more color. Such multicolored fightsticks are rather rare. Not only that, this fightstick has been sighted in colors like:

  • Teal
  • Pink
  • Black

Even the buttons can be a mixture of black and white. The joystick can be black or white too. Just take heed that—because of 3D printing’s nature—there may be tiny imperfections on your DP-5, which Akekon Dojo tries to minimize.

To save the best for last: instead of custom art, the DP-5 has LED that can shine through its buttons & sides, and you can conveniently control it with a remote. Note that you’d have to buy the CR2025 battery yourself.

Conclusion

If you like the DP-5, here’s what you can do:

  1. Pick the number of buttons on the fightstick.
  2. Choose the fightstick’s size and color.
