Overview
Imagine having a southpaw controller. That’s uncommon, right? Well, what about a controller with LEDs shining throughout its enclosure instead of just the buttons? And add to that a controller developed in collaboration with the legendary Japanese pro, MOV! Such is the case with the LuminouSnack…
Fun fact: according to the maker, Lumina Studio, the LuminouSnack was designed with Japanese (and female) hands in mind, which are often smaller than, say, Western hands.
That said, the slim and light LuminouSnack controller has 15 buttons. This means you can use it with games like Street Fighter 6 (and other games, of course).
Moreover, the LuminouSnack’s jump button being 6 mm bigger than the rest of the 24 mm buttons means your thumb’s side can press it more easily. Even the four function keys are bigger than average, leading to comfy presses.
Moving on…
The LuminouSnack’s low profile Kailh PG1316S switches mean you can pull off combos fast—as well as respond to your opponent’s moves in time. Plus, these switches are quieter than most.
Made of acrylic, the LuminouSnack is mainly held together by four screws, and its sized well for both lap & desk play. Thankfully, the controller uses the awesome USB-C as its connection type, and the port comes out of a convenient center back location.
Because it runs on the open source GP2040-CE firmware, and because it also has a EXT USB-A port, the LuminouSnack’s compatibility can be extended to be compatible with more modern consoles—if you insert the appropriate dongle.
Another common benefit of the aforementioned excellent firmware, which is present in the LuminouSnack too, is an OLED screen that shows you these four crucial details while you grind out matches:
- Input mode
- Directional mode
- SOCD cleaning mode
- Live button press animation
In a seashell: if you’re looking for a slim & light controller that’s also (1) mirrored, (2) approved by a pro, and (3) has lights shining out of new places, then the LuminouSnack may very well be worth your hard earned money. Be sure to check out the other offerings in Lumina Studio’s BOOTH shop as well!
