Overview

Function buttons! They can be annoyingly small and hard to press, but one of the ky-shop case’s star features is its unique function buttonhole design.

You see, there are four function buttonholes, and three of these buttonholes have an uncommonly horizontal shape that makes it easier for you to press.

Another star feature is the two extra main buttonholes—for buttons to be pressed by your two thumbs. The buttonhole on the right is a bit raised to prevent you from accidentally pressing the button.

(By the way, the photo you see in this article features a mockup of what a ky-shop case could look like with some buttons installed, though in reality, the jump button should be efficiently bigger than the rest.)

With a USB-B port conveniently in the center back, the case runs on the GP2040 firmware and Raspberry Pi Pico chip. The firmware is almost lag-free, the chip is reliable, and multiplatform Brook boards are compatible too.

Now, it’s important to note that the case is 3D printed—as well as put together by hand. This means that there may be a small margin of error when it comes to the dimensions and so on. In fact, you should be able to see on ky-shop’s BOOTH listing (that ships worldwide) if the case you’re buying is a B-grade product.

Otherwise…

You can generally expect the side panels to be 40 and 45 mm. Moreover, the bottom panel should be 5 mm, and the top panel: 6 mm.

Although you can see six screws on the top panel, you may be glad to know that this top panel is fixed in place with magnets—meaning you can access the case’s interior toollessly.

That said, it’s also because of those magnets that you should be careful if you wear something like a pacemaker that’s sensitive to magnetism, but statistically, you probably don’t have similarly exceptional circumstances in your life.

Yet, another caveat when buying such a ky-shop case is that its material can get deformed at high temperatures. Then again, the temperature would need to be higher than 60°C, so unless you forget the case on your car’s hood somewhere in Death Valley in mid August, you should be fine.

Just one final heads up that the 3D printed, handmade nature of the case may cause you to see some minor…

  • Sunken areas
  • Vertical lines
  • Black dots

Otherwise, with ky-shop, you should be getting a well sized case—wide enough to comfortably place on your lap—with a somewhat rectangular shape plus round corners. Not only that, the case’s color can be as rare as light teal, and your performance with the case?

It can be as good as Evo champion-worthy!
