Introduction

Do you want to know a way to time travel back to the 90’s? The FightBox R8-SF2 lets you play Street Fighter II (and similar games) with a layout that was popular back in the day!

Performance

An octagonal Happ Competition Style joystick joins forces with Happ concave buttons to give you a kind of experience that us players from the 90’s really miss.

More specifically, the R8-SF2’s bat-top joystick has a long throw and heavy spring tension. Meanwhile, the buttons feel considerably heavier than, say, Sanwas.

That said, the R8-SF2’s joystick and buttons use a Cherry D44X microswitch with a 75 g operating force. This microswitch can last you millions of cycles.

It’s also worth noting that the R8-SF2 has plenty of wrist room, but let’s end this performance section with what the function buttons do:

  • L2
  • Select
  • Home
  • Start
  • R2

Hardware

The R8-SF2 is actually a three-in-one made of metal, acrylic, and rubber. Specifically, the case is metallic, the top panel is acrylic, and the bottom has rubber feet.

Needless to say, those big feet keep the R8-SF2 in place while you unleash some ill combos. Otherwise, this fightstick is in between being a mediumweight and heavyweight.

Having said that, it’s pretty rad that FightBoxArcade offers you multiple compatibility choices based on your needs and budget. On the more premium side of things, you have the diversely compatible Brook Gen-5X board.

On the other hand, you’ve got a Pico Plus option that’s also low latency. For your information, the USB-B port is tactically located in the R8-SF2’s center back.

Appearance

FightBoxArcade did a good job with the marble-like artwork and red/white/blue buttons—plus the black joystick & case. Yet, because the R8-SF2 has an acrylic top panel, you should be able to customize its art.

Speaking of that, we at The Arcade Stick are waiting for your instructions to customize your R8-SF2’s art. Actually, here’s some art by our designer Felipe Fernandez for his client’s FightBox:

(If you have some R8-SF2 digital art already, we can just print it for you. Deal?)

Conclusion

Don’t overthink it… Just grab the R8-SF2, and bring back some 90’s arcade fun right in your living room with this fightstick from a reputable brand!
