Lever Edition
Introduction
Fruits Factory names its controllers after seasons, such as RAINY+ and DRY+. Let’s focus on the DRY+ since it’s leverless—a more popular layout.
You can buy the DRY+ in DIY or preassembled format. The DIY format saves you money and allows you to experience the IKEA effect—feeling proud of building something—whereas the preassembled format saves you time and prevents assembly errors.
Fun fact: Fruits Factory also calls its controller a Frucon, meaning a Fruits controller.
Performance
The DRY+ has 15 main buttons. This means three buttons are extra. By default, these extra buttons can be as follows:
- Left pinky touchpad
- Left thumb L3 button
- Right thumb R3 button
Compatible button brands/models include:
- FlashTap
- PWS Blaze
- PWS V1
- PWS V2
- SiTong (low)
More compatible button brands/models include (with the caveat that the fast-on terminals would have to be bent):
- OneFRAME
- Qanba Gravity KS
- Seimitsu Alutimo
- TIKITAKA
- ZENAIM
Just note that the ZENAIM option would require a conversion connector for the side switches. On the DRY+’s right side—to be used by your likely dominant right hand—you can find four function buttons with hot swappable Cherry MX switches. Your controller should arrive with a switch/keycap puller, by the way. Anyway, the function buttons can serve as:
- Start/options
- Back/touchpad
- Home/PS
- Create
On a closing note here, it’s awesome that the DRY+ has generous space for your wrist comfort, and its width is suitable to place it on your lap without pain. Not only that, there’s an anti-slip pad per leg of yours.
Hardware
The DRY+ is slim and light—the latter of which relieves your legs from too much weight when you place the controller on your lap. Another convenient hardware element is magnetic opening and closure for mods & repairs.
More than that, the DRY+ features Fruits Factory’s own PCB, the Fruits Basket.2, which is an amalgamation of:
- Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller
- Waveshare RP2040-Zero board
- GP2040-CE firmware
With a dongle, you can extend the DRY+’s console compatibility options further. That said, the USB-C port can be found in the back right—another convenient location for your likely right handed self—and this controller is held together by a moderate amount of six screws.
Appearance
The DRY+ has a bit of a futuristic look with its see-through design, especially with the braided internal wiring. Even the function buttons are see-through, although they can still have colors like:
- Blue
- Green
- Pink
- White
Otherwise, the DRY+’s main buttons are black, and so are its anti-slip pads. Just note that—because this controller is assembled by hand—minor scratches and blemishes are possible, though Fruits Factory tries its best to avoid them.
On the bright side, the DRY+ has matte top and base panels to prevent stains. Custom art is still possible, so if you’d like this controller to display awesome art that represents your personality, please get in touch with us here at The Arcade Stick—as we have a custom art service that’s been around for years.
Conclusion
The DRY+ has one of the most popular modern layouts that utilizes your left pinky, left thumb, and right thumb in a way that increases your odds of defeating your opponents.
The magnetic disassembly is sick as well, and by buying this controller, you also contribute to the betterment of the Japanese economy. For your information, Fruits Factory ships the DRY+ worldwide using CDJapan’s proxy service.
