Introduction

In the past, Cyber Gadget blessed us with arcade sticks like the Cyber Arcade Stick and even the Retro Freak Arcade Stick. This time, Cyber Gadget is back with a vengeance.

With that being said, allow us to introduce the Arcade Freak. Will it match the Cyber Arcade Stick’s sales? Read on to find out if this arcade stick is worth a buy!

Unboxing

The Arcade Freak is not one of those arcade sticks that come with a dozen freebies, but it does come with a hex wrench as well as a USB-A to C converter.

Performance

To start off, the Arcade Freak likely uses Baolian parts. It has eight primary buttons in the Vewlix layout. Under them, there is an extra primary button. As for the small function buttons, they are for:

  • Quick save
  • Quick load
  • Code freak
  • Overclock
  • Option
  • Home

It’s important to note that the Arcade Freak was designed with the Retro Freak console in mind, so its function buttons cater to it. Otherwise, it’s also possible to use this arcade stick with other consoles. You see, the port that it uses is the USB-A type.

Moving on, the Arcade Freak allows for the use of macros. So, you can macro a bunch of buttons into one, and you can also use this feature as a turbo mode. Check out the macro modes:

  1. “Repeat” means you hold a button and it keeps pressing in-game.
  2. “Hold” means you press a button once and it keeps pressing.
  3. “Mirror” means that—when you activate a macro using a set button combo—the macro gets horizontally mirrored.

At this point, we’ve established that the Arcade Freak does okay in the buttons department. Now, if you find the joystick to be too inflexible and old fashioned, you may be glad to know that you can replace it with a more modern joystick with better performance. Whether you set the joystick to left stick or D-pad mode is entirely up to you.

Onward, there’s an informational LCD screen featured on the Arcade Freak. It can allow you to do things like:

  • Activate or deactivate macros.
  • Pick a console to connect to.
  • Get system updates.
  • Adjust wifi settings.

No computer needed!

To wrap up this section, the Arcade Freak has an ergonomic slope that your wrists may like. At the bottom, there are four feet—one per corner—for stability.

Hardware

The Arcade Freak looks heavier than it actually is. In actuality, it’s light. Truth be told, the light weight is a downside. That’s because a lighter arcade stick usually moves around more during hectic gameplay.

In addition, the plastic on top may feel malleable, so be careful when you handle it to avoid any warping. The hardware can also make the Arcade Freak sound loud.

As for the Arcade Freak’s metallic bottom, it’s bittersweet: metal is often good material for arcade sticks, but if you wear shorts with the AC on, the metal may feel cold on your legs.

On the bright side, the Arcade Freak’s sides have grooves that allow you to carry it more conveniently. Also, six screws hold the top panel in place, so if you need to unscrew the arcade stick, it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle. Finally, there is a bottom compartment where you can store the cable. Maybe you can put some weights here too for extra stability.

Appearance

The Arcade Freak has an interesting mixture of black, blue, and white for the colors of its case, joystick, and buttons. You should be able to customize all these colors, such as by changing the joystick and buttons.

On a closing note, if you are bold enough to remove the Arcade Freak’s default art, we at The Arcade Stick can provide you custom art based on your own instructions. For that, we hope you consider our custom art service.

Conclusion

If you are a retro gamer: you can give the Arcade Freak a look, but it’s best reserved for light use.
