Introduction

The Meisterbox S (also known as The Bone) is a mini all-key controller with 14 keys. Note that the controller’s design is open source, but you should be able to order it preassembled as well.

Unboxing

The Meisterbox S comes with a USB-C to A cable as well as its own Alpenmeister case that matches its black, gray, and white theme. If you order the controller in DIY format, you should also be receiving these three items:

  1. PCB
  2. Acrylic layer
  3. Screw and cap set

(The DIY format of the Meisterbox S will likely have you 3D print the case and hinges separately.)

Performance

The Meisterbox S uses low profile MBK keycaps of 1u and 1.5u widths. As for the Kailh Choc V1 Pink switches’ specs:

  • 1.5 mm pretravel distance
  • 20 g actuation force
  • Linear nature

The above button-switch combo results in a smooth and quiet pressing experience. Three small function buttons can also be found in the center back of the Meisterbox S.

That said, the stability of the Meisterbox S is okay, but it could have been better. You may have to install your own grip tape underneath it so it stays in place all the time when on a desk.

Hardware

3D printed from PETG, it’s awesome that the small, light, and portable Meisterbox S comes with a braided cable that bolsters its durability. By the way, one USB-C port is in the front, and another one is on the right.

Modern console compatibility requires the use of a USB-A adapter. This is made possible due to the awesome GP2040-CE firmware the Meisterbox S runs on that’s as good as lag-free.

Most importantly, you’ll find closing mechanisms on both sides of the Meisterbox S. These should allow the carrying case to securely attach to the controller—while you scour the globe in search of tournament trophies as a fighting gamer.

Appearance

We’ve already established that the Meisterbox S has a black, gray, and white theme—which is quite aesthetic. The black cable matches this color scheme nicely too.

With four screws holding the top panel together, the art of the Meisterbox S is customizable, and we at The Arcade Stick can offer you our custom art service to streamline the process.

Conclusion

Closely study the specs of the Meisterbox S to see if it’s worthwhile for you, and pay special attention to its unique layout that you may find most efficient to play your favorite fighting game.
