Introduction
It’s war! And the DOIO KBHX-01 MAX+ allows you to use these fingers to press extra keys—and conquer the battle:
- Left middle finger
- Left pinky
- Left thumb
- Right thumb
- Right index finger
That, dear reader, is a summary of the KBHX-01 MAX+ experience. Read on to find out the rest!
Performance
The KBHX-01 MAX+ has 18 keys, which give you access to a split layout—as well as an optional WASD layout. The star of the show, however, is the two clusters of spacebar-like keys for your thumbs.
Each spacebar cluster has two spacebars, resulting in four spacebars total. Essentially, more surface area equals easier pressing for you. Not only that, all the KBHX-01 MAX+’s keys are slanted for your wrist health.
To the function button lock’s right, the KBHX-01 MAX+’s 9.5 mm silicone function buttons are for:
- Wireless
- Home
- L3
- R3
- Select
- Start
That said, the KBHX-01 MAX+’s low profile PBT keys are injection molded—smooth with a slight texture—and they use the similarly low profile Amber switches that are hot swappable. So, if you have another switch brand preference, you can go for that brand instead.
Hardware
With quality CNC 6063 aluminum alloy on top, the KBHX-01 MAX+ runs on the popular GP2040-CE low latency firmware. The built-in screen tells you information like your input, directional, and SOCD cleaning modes—in addition to showing a live animation of your button presses.
That aside, there are USB-C ports on the KBHX-01 MAX+’s left and back sides, so you can insert the USB-C cable where it obstructs you less. Otherwise, it’s awesome that this controller offers you rare wireless connectivity.
But yo, do you have a next gen adapter? If so, you can insert it into the USB-A port within the KBHX-01 MAX+ for enhanced compatibility with additional modern consoles. Pop open the controller, and find this EXT port near the directional keys.
Full disclosure!
The KBHX-01 MAX+’s top can get cold. Also, while the controller is thin, it can feel a bit heavy—though that’s a blessing in disguise because its weight prevents it from sliding around while you execute the illest combos.
More than that, the KBHX-01 MAX+’s width allows you to play with the controller on your lap without having to squeeze your thighs together—something we at The Arcade Stick appreciate.
Appearance
The KBHX-01 MAX+’s aesthetic implementations include backlighting. Other than that, the controller is available in many colors. You can mix and match key colors as you please. Don’t need key labels? No worries, labels are optional.
If you’re interested in knowing, DOIO uses the following processes to beautify your KBHX-01 MAX+:
- Sandblasting
- Anodizing
- Painting
Further, DOIO’s logo is engraved on the KBHX-01 MAX+’s top panel, and a DP motion is engraved on there too. Finally, you can find six anti-slip pads and four feet at the acrylic bottom—plus eight screws.
Conclusion
The KBHX-01 MAX+ is one of those controllers with endless features, but if you come from a keyboard background and would like to put all your fingers to use with an 18 key controller—including spacebars—then consider this bestselling brand’s controller, which may get you to grandmaster rank online faster.
