Introduction
Now that the Varmilo Kassai has been released for a while, it makes sense that Varmilo eventually came up with the HA10—a leverless version of the Kassai.
Unboxing
Before we dive deeper, let’s mention what comes with both editions of the HA10. It’s nice to see the controller in a white Varmilo box, which has:
- Three to four blank buttons
- Three spare buttons
- Two button removers
- Two gloves
- Strap
Performance
Essentially, the HA10 has 18 main buttons, but if 18 buttons are too many for you, you can replace an unwanted button with a blank button. Just use one of the included removers to rotate and then remove a button. Button mapping is made even easier with the Varmilo Web Driver companion software.
The HA10’s buttons mostly have a decent size of 22 mm. The jump, left pinky, and right palm buttons have a bigger 25 mm size. More than that, there’s an extra jump button if you’d rather use this controller in the WASD layout.
Having said that, your HA10 might have PBT or ABS buttons, depending on the edition you choose. The ABS buttons in particular are smooth and snappy—yet light.
In addition, the HA10’s buttons are quieter than average. You see, these buttons are enforced by hot swappable Cherry MX Silver switches that have a customizable actuation point—in Hall effect fashion. Moreover, you can set more than one actuation point.
For example, you may prefer some of the buttons’ switches to have a low actuation point, whereas you prefer others to have a high actuation point. Otherwise, you’ll initially feel that the HA10’s switches have a low actuation point.
For the record, the HA10’s fast switches can last you a whopping 200 million presses! This way, there would be no need to keep spending on new switches.
As for the HA10’s five function buttons, they’re labeled:
- Start
- Guide
- Fn
- Update
- Reset
Those function buttons are relatively big and stiff. The stiffness may be a blessing in disguise—as you’re less likely to press the function buttons accidentally. Anyway, the HA10 also has a toggle for:
- Controller mode
- Lock mode
- PC mode
That said, the HA10 has a size suitable for both lap and desk placement. Not only that, the controller is slim but not too slim, giving it some decent height when placed on your lap or desk.
To end this performance section, the HA10 brings back a familiar ergonomic slope for your wrists’ comfort, especially with the gloves on. Lastly, Varmilo deserves bonus points for having the anti-slip pad cover the entire bottom.
Hardware
Although weighty, the moderately sized HA10 is made of CNC metal, and traveling with the controller becomes easier with the shoulder strap. If you’re just carrying it a short distance though, its recessed sides really help when picking it up and setting it down.
The HA10’s standard edition is PC compatible, and the pro edition is also PlayStation 5 & Nintendo Switch 2 compatible. In the back, there are two USB-C ports:
- One USB-C port is for accessories.
- Another USB-C port is for the cable.
In addition to coming tied, you may like how the HA10’s USB-C cable has lockable screws to make extra sure that the cable doesn’t disconnect in the heat of battle. This design is reminiscent of computer cables from back in the day!
Appearance
Varmilo chose a good color for the HA10’s cable: black. In other words, the cable color nicely matches the buttons—regardless of whether you order the controller in obsidian black or limited edition gold. The latter edition (gold) looks like it has a bit of a holographic effect to it.
Even the HA10’s shoulder strap mentioned earlier is stylish, and it has Varmilo branding. As for the gloves, their color may be described as light teal.
By the way, the unique planet button art is optional. In any case, how about you buy a golden HA10 for yourself and the obsidian black edition for your bestie?
Conclusion
Picture yourself with the HA10… It has 18 buttons, which are more than enough for modern fighting games, but you can replace some of them with blank buttons if needed.
Other than that, you may be especially fond of the HA10’s right palm button. You can also customize the switches’ actuation point. This is a rare feature.
You might find the HA10’s gloves and shoulder strap to be especially convenient as well. Finally, you can walk into a tournament in style with this gorgeous controller!
