Overview

It’s a rock-type Pokemon, and it’s also the name of one JackWagon’s most elegant arcade sticks yet: Onyx.

You see, the JackWagon Arcade Stick Onyx Edition uses the durable and responsive Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons. The 30 mm button size ensures that no inputs are missed, increasing your odds of winning matches.

The Onyx’ buttons are in the Noir layout—a layout that has become a community favorite due to it following the natural curvature of your resting fingers.

Not only that, the Onyx is sized in a way where you can comfortably rest your wrists on it—whether the arcade stick is set on a desk or even your lap.

That said, the Onyx’ PCB runs on the open source GP2040 firmware we at The Arcade Stick have grown to love over time. This excellent firmware provides you benefits like:

  • Fast inputs
  • Online updates
  • Decent compatibility

(You can even use a dongle to extend the Onyx’ compatibility with modern consoles.)

Looks-wise, the Onyx sports black acrylic with gold-rimmed buttons as well as a matching golden joystick. Also, 10 screws hold the top panel in place. The arcade stick has a pretty interesting shape, with one example being the slightly curved left and right sides.

If you’re looking to be the most stylish player at the next tournament while still having high chances of winning it, the Onyx combines style with performance in a way that’s awesome to see, making it worth a buy—and lasting you years.
