Have you seen a leverless controller as wide as the Battle Grid Leverless Controller? It’s like the Hori VLX of leverless controllers! This innovation is the creation of Black Sheep Dynamics—a San Diego startup that sprouted in 2024—but its concept was conceived back in 2008. The black sheep part of the name refers to innovators or disruptors.

That said, the Battle Grid was designed with the tournament player in mind. In a world of 16+ button controllers, this controller does something different: it has 13 main buttons—all the same size.

Thus, the Battle Grid has one more button than the classic 12 button layout. This extra button is to be pressed by your right thumb, and by default, it serves as an R3 button.

You see, the Battle Grid has a split layout, giving your hands more room to breathe. Not only that, the buttons utilize easily customizable Kailh tactile switches.

As for the Battle Grid’s function buttons, there are five. Nearby, in the top panel’s upper center, there’s a bigger-than-usual screen. It’s there to provide valuable information and aid you in battle. What this screen shows includes:

  • Input mode
  • Button labels
  • Splash screen

With a slim all-aluminum chassis, the Battle Grid is one of the widest leverless controllers to date. Also, its metallic hardware muffles the buttons’ sound a bit in a pleasant way.

More than that, the Battle Grid’s bottom panel features full rubber padding for anti-slipping purposes. Go inside the controller, and you should find two EXT ports:

  1. A port already with a PlayStation 5 converter
  2. An empty port for your own converter

In summary, the Battle Grid’s width and padding make it a suitable companion for lap players. Finally, the controller’s slimness makes it more beautiful, and its silver-plus-gold color scheme looks elegant.

So, will you join the battle?
