Introduction
Howdy, ranger? The Joytron PC Ranger isn’t the first time that we’ve seen this case. In fact, it’s a clone of:
That said, the PC Ranger does include some unique elements that make it worth talking about!
Unboxing
There’s not much else that comes with the PC Ranger other than its useful manual, which you can find a version of online. If you don’t speak Korean, you can use a plugin to translate the text, of course.
Performance
Something different about the PC Ranger’s buttons is that they use mechanical switches. Otherwise, the buttons are in the classic Vewlix layout.
Admittedly, you may find the PC Ranger’s buttons to be a bit too mushy for your taste. In other words, they’re not as crisp as, say, Sanwa buttons.
In fact, the PC Ranger’s buttons seem like Sanwa clones, which could actually be good news because this often means that you can easily swap such buttons with actual Sanwa buttons.
Having said that, the PC Ranger’s joystick utilizes an octagonal restrictor gate, which is rounder than a square gate—in a way that gives you smooth circular motions that games like Street Fighter are known for.
That being said, check out the PC Ranger’s toggles and auxiliary buttons:
- XInput / NS / DInput
- LS / DP / RS
- Turbo
- Select / –
- Start / +
- Home
(Pressing select and start together should serve as a capture button.)
Hardware
The PC Ranger is a small fightstick, but it has a little bit of weight to it due to the metal plate at its ABS case’s bottom. There, you can also see four round rubber feet that are bigger than most.
Up top, the PC Ranger has a subtle wrist slope for your comfort as you game for hours. Meanwhile, if you want to go inside this fightstick, the bottom screws aren’t too many to unscrew.
Once you’re inside the PC Ranger, you’ll likely appreciate how organized the internals are. By the way, the main cable comes out of the fightstick’s back right, and Nintendo Switch compatibility should be good out of the box.
Appearance
The PC Ranger’s black and white theme is simple yet effective. Now, if you’re brave enough to paste a vinyl skin onto this fightstick, we at The Arcade Stick would love to offer you our custom art service!
Our designer Felipe Fernandez even crafted art for a similar fightstick before, and he can design another piece for your PC Ranger too:
Conclusion
The PC Ranger is a decent option for fighting gamers looking for a budget PC fightstick in South Korea—or live abroad and don’t mind ordering this fightstick through a proxy service if needed.
