With the WoodPunch L, you can be the one delivering the punch—preferably in-game. This controller’s name refers to:
- The controller’s material
- Its fighting game purpose
- Its leverless layout
To begin, the WoodPunch L has beveled edges to reduce your odds of developing a severe case of carpal tunnel syndrome—AKA wrist pain.
Not only that, the WoodPunch L is weighty enough to be stable on your lap or desk, so you can forget about the controller sliding while you pull off a rad combo.
That said, the WoodPunch L comes in three layouts—with each layout indicating the number of buttons:
- L12
- L15
- L16
The L16 layout is most recommended—because its 16 buttons give you access to an alternative WASD layout as well as index, left thumb, and right thumb buttons. The thumb buttons are conveniently on a straight path.
The WoodPunch L also has a whopping seven function buttons in the back, and seven is definitely a bigger amount than usual. Near these function buttons, specifically the back left, is where a black USB cable comes out.
In the unlikely case you’re not digging the WoodPunch L’s stock keycaps, you may be glad to know that they’re removable and replaceable.
Needless to say, the WoodPunch L’s switches are hot swappable for your convenience. Otherwise, they’re the acclaimed Cherry MX Speed Silver switches, which—for the tech savvy reader—boast a short 1.2 mm actuation point.
Another department in which the WoodPunch L delivers is the firmware. It runs on the open source GP2040-CE firmware that has:
- Less than 1 ms of input latency
- Overclocked polling rate
- Easy button remapping
- SOCD cleaning modes
- Customizable features
- Web configuration
More than that, the firmware allows you to insert your own converter into the WoodPunch L to make it compatible with even more consoles.
At this point, it’s a good time to mention that the WoodPunch L has a magnetic bottom panel that can be popped open without the need for screwdrivers—or a degree in carpentry.
