Overview

TIKITAKA is reminiscent of a word that describes the constant passing that Brazilian footballers are known for. By the same token, you can zigzag your fingers across the buttons of this bestselling company’s controller, the R1A, with your own layout!

You see, the R1A is spacious enough for your imagination to go wild with the layout, but if you go for the default layout, it’s still good. Essentially, you get four extra buttons to be pressed by the following fingers:

  1. Left pinky
  2. Left thumb
  3. Right thumb
  4. Right index

We’ve already established that customization matters to TIKITAKA, so you can also choose your R1A’s keycap type—whether it’s ABS or PBT.

ABS is matte, grippy, nonstick, and smooth enough for sliding techniques. PBT is also matte, oil resistant, hard, and even smoother than ABS.

As for the R1A’s function buttons, they’re fully sized—unlike those inconveniently tiny function buttons we at The Arcade Stick have seen on a lot of controllers over the years.

In any case, the R1A utilizes the rare and fast Kasumi Axis switches with the following specs:

  • Actuation force of 35 g
  • Actuation point of 0.5 mm
  • Total stroke of 1.5 mm

Moreover, the R1A’s spaciousness also allows you to place it on your lap without needing to squeeze your legs together in a way that could cut off circulation.

Not only that, you can liberally distance yourself from the monitor because one of the R1A’s board options is the popular Brook Gen-5X, which is a PCB that can last you up to a dozen hours of wireless gaming fun.

That said, you may be in a position where you’d like to spend less on a PCB. In that case, your R1A can instead arrive with TIKITAKA’s own FightingBoard based on the acclaimed Raspberry Pi Pico chip. Sure, it’s less compatibility, but you also save some cash this way.

Now, there’s a chance that—after your brand new R1A arrives—you’d like to extend its compatibility options with more consoles. In this case, just insert your own dongle into the designated USB-A port. Otherwise, the controller uses a USB-B port for the cable.

Hardware-wise, the R1A is made with a technology called heat bending. More than that, it’s integrally molded for longevity purposes. Plus, with a magnetic opening, you’re able to conveniently access the interior without needing a PhD in carpentry.

Based on its looks, the R1A is for the elegant fighting gamer. At the time of writing, the R1A has only been spotted in a black enclosure. However, its buttons can have colors that range from black and white to red.

Having said that, here are the R1A’s color choices per keycap type:

  • ABS black
  • ABS white
  • PBT black and white
  • PBT black and red

(You can even have symbols of what the R1A’s buttons do shown directly on them.)

At this point, and having read this far, it’s safe to assume that you’re the kind of fighting gamer who’s willing to invest in upgrading his or her tools.

In that scenario, you should add the R1A to your cart if you’re looking for a spacious and wirelessly multiplatform controller with the custom layout of your wildest dreams—bringing you a step closer to championship gold.

Hope to see you on the grand finals stage!
