Introduction

After a series of unique experiments, Scott of JackWagon FightSticks fame decided to launch an innovation that combines his offerings into one: the Modulus DIY Arcade Stick Case.

You can order the Modulus in DIY or preassembled form, depending on if you’d like a plug and play controller—or a controller you can take pride in building yourself.

Performance

From one glance, it’s easy to tell how spacious the Modulus is, which means plenty of space for your hands to rest—as well as ample width to set the controller on your lap.

Before you do that though, would you like a Japanese or Korean lever on your Modulus? The former requires a 22.5 mm clearance, whereas the latter requires a 35 mm clearance.

Wait, maybe you don’t even want a joystick! That’s fine because the Modulus can come in plenty of layouts in lever and leverless styles. Here are some highlighted layouts:

  • Noir
  • Vewlix
  • Mixup
  • Antagonist
  • Shiokenstar
  • WASD + up
  • IST Mall inspired layouts
  • Sega 2P and its variations
  • Completely custom layout

(On the Modulus’ right side, you can find three fully-sized function buttons. Odds are you’re right handed.)

Hardware

The Modulus is made of acrylic and bolstered with 3D printed corner brackets, which are fitted with threaded standoffs that are zinc plated.

In case you were wondering, the Modulus’ USB-B port is roughly in the back center. To access the internals, just remove the bottom panel, and you can find the neatly color-coded wiring.

In addition to requesting a guitar strap button, JackWagon even gives you freedom in the bottom padding department. The padding can cover the Modulus’ entire bottom or there can instead be two pads—one per leg of yours. You can also request for some foam to be down there.

Appearance

If you haven’t guessed already, the Modulus is named after its modular nature. This means you can swap its inner and outer shells on the go, changing the look within mere seconds. Not only that, you can also pick the corner brackets’ colors. Colors include white, black, and custom. As for the bottom padding, it’s black.

That said, the Modulus’ highlight in the appearance department is how you can choose its entire shape. JackWagon legacy shapes include:

  • STIMM
  • Battle Axe
  • Battle Axe 2.0

And you may be surprised to also see these shapes:

  • THOR
  • Mjolnir
  • Minimalist
  • Custom shape

Now, it’s time to end your Modulus’ design process with a bang! First, you can request for the bottom padding to be engraved. Second, there can be clear acrylic on the top and sides, displaying custom art that you (and the world) can see from many angles. Third, if you need an artist, we at The Arcade Stick would love to offer you our art service.

Conclusion

The Modulus lets you manifest your vision into a powerful tool that’s custom tailored to your needs. Not only can you make this controller the ultimate eye candy, you can also customize its performance to increase your likelihood of ranking up online fast or even winning the next tournament. Pick the shape, pick the layout, and snatch championship gold—in modular fashion.
