Overview

Have you been to Okayama? You know, that one city in Japan known for its iconic castle? Well, it’s also the home of Okayama Tactical Gaming, which provides you custom controllers like the Ikaruga! This controller might be named after the bird—or even the mecha anime character—of the same name.

If you like to tinker, you can buy the Ikaruga as a DIY kit you can assemble yourself and therefore feel proud. Otherwise, you can conveniently order it as a premade controller you can plug and play with.

You can also grab an Ikaruga in lever or leverless format if you wish. Even the button layout can be custom, including where the function buttons are located.

Further, the sizes of the function buttons can differ, and so can the enclosure. Another nice thing about the Ikaruga is that it can have a full coverage EVA pad at the bottom for grip purposes.

That said, the Ikaruga can operate on something as simple as a Raspberry Pi chip running on the open source GP2040 firmware. It can also run on a multiplatform PCB like Brook boards, which are low in latency too. Moreover, the controller uses the industry standard USB-C connection.

Hardware-wise, the Ikaruga is made of acrylic with plastic posts, giving it moderate weight. Optionally, you can request for it to have magnetic closure—instead of unscrewing it each time you want to go in for mods and/or repairs.

Aesthetically, the Ikaruga’s panels can be clear or matte. You can also choose their colors. If you do get the clear version, however, we’re waiting for you here at The Arcade Stick. Why?

You see, we have an art service to give your controller the gnarly design it deserves. By the way, if you’re not in Japan, a proxy service should be able to deliver a new Ikaruga to your address—globally.
